Yoga: A Legacy That Enriches Your Well Being
Well regarded as the oldest practice of self-development, Yoga received a legacy status in India about 500 years ago. Yoga beautifies your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Moreover, Yoga motivates you to focus on your potentials as well as self-awareness. Yoga has several methods to start with and to carry on a healthy life. These methods include physical postures, breathing control as well as meditation. Though Yoga helps you to cleanse & refresh your mind but most people engage in Yoga to shape up and to get better with their health and well-being. There are only a few who really get into pure mediation and self-reflection without doing or performing the Yogic asanas.
Yoga is misconceived as a series of steps to be followed but actually it is an ever-evolving process that refines your self more as it itself gets evolved. Over time, Yoga enriches your soul & enhances the self-awareness as you practice it. Yoga improves your body & strengthens control on your body and mind. Yoga enhances your capability to direct your mind and to interact with the object of your concentration. However, Yoga requires a real dedication in order to achieve these goals and enjoy its corresponding benefits.
Starting its journey from India, Yoga has become a widespread practice nowadays and has influenced & benefited millions around the world. You will find yoga classes and groups in almost every city and region. The most common form of Yoga involves proper coordination between breathing and body. This right coordination of physical exercise and harmonized breathing improves the blood circulation, provides a positive relief to the body and increases one’s vitality, potency and flexibility. Yoga has several forms; few of them are fast aerobic workouts while few include effective & powerful precise styles for the fitness conscious people. Few forms of Yoga are gentle and focus more on remedial causes.
Yoga can be practiced by anybody. It is open to all people of different ages, beliefs and lifestyles. It can be learned by simply reading good books & references. Although it will be more advantageous if you go for a personal tutor or attend a prestige Yoga class.
Undoubtedly, Yoga will be a plus for your health and well being but you must decide on to a form that fits your physique and your lifestyle. You must be aware of your own qualities so that your learning is guided properly because each form of Yoga has its own unique form of meditation.
While practicing Yoga, it is advised to use good mats that act as a cushion on hard floor and choose your clothing that lets you move freely to optimize your flexibility skills.

Understanding Varicose Eczema
Varicose eczema is one type of eczema that can affect you when you become middle aged or elderly. It is not caused by food allergies or coming into contact with substances that you are allergic to, although these triggers can make it worse. Varicose eczema, otherwise also known as gravitational or stasis eczema, is caused by poor circulation in your legs. Leaving varicose eczema untreated can mean developing nasty ulcers that are quite difficult to heal.
Varicose eczema is often preceded by the presence of varicose veins. The veins develop when blood does not flow properly to deeper veins from the surface veins. Pressure builds up on the surface veins, resulting in the pooling of blood. However, what is not known is why only some people with varicose veins develop varicose eczema and not others.
Varicose eczema skin is both unhealthy and fragile. It is easily broken and can leave you with a nasty sore, known as a varicose ulcer. If you do not get this treated right away, then the small sore can grow even bigger and deeper and even harder to treat. At this point your ulcer can attract bacteria which will make the eczema even worse than it already is.
It is possible to also develop varicose eczema due to having varicose veins, phlebitis or deep vein thrombosis in the past. This can happen in your late teenage years, especially if you are a female. It has been found that women are at higher risk of developing varicose eczema due to their hormones, especially in pregnancy.
Keeping varicose eczema skin moist with an emollient is highly recommended. However, please note that not just any over the counter emollients will do. You will need to check the ingredients to figure out if you are allergic to any of them before use. It may also be that a cheaper emollient can work better than an expensive one.
Using an emollient twice a day helps. There are even some that you can use in the bathtub that will help to lock in the moisture that chlorinated water usually removes from your body. This is especially true if you use hot water. You should also avoid using bubble bath and soap until your condition has cleared up.
Your doctor may prescribe you a short course of topical steroid cream for you to use, especially if your varicose eczema skin is especially itchy. On the other hand, there are also natural treatments for varicose eczema that you can try. It is important to find out which treatments will work best for you before your varicose eczema becomes worse.

Wrinkles - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment
Wrinkle is a ridge or crease of a surface. It usually refers to folds on fabric or clothes , or on the skin of an organism; the folds are generally random and do not exhibit any repeating pattern. Wrinkles are the thin, creased, and sagging skin that is especially noticeable on the face, neck, and hands. Wind, heat and chemicals and the natural effects of aging cause a certain amount of wrinkling in everyone, but it is much worse in people who spend a lot of time in the sun. Years of exposure to the sun cause “photoaging,” which includes freckles, yellowing, roughness, visible blood vessels, and dark spots, as well as wrinkling.
Typically, as a person ages, the sweat and oil glands of the skin become less numerous and smaller in size. This causes the skin to lose moisture and to dry out, and it soon begins to sag in places where the collagen, the elastic fibers that support the skin, has weakened the most. The skin around the eyelids, jaw, and neck is especially thin, and therefore more naturally prone to aging. In addition to sun exposure, smoking may contribute to the formation of wrinkles. Finally, it is believed that some wrinkling is predetermined genetically from one’s parents.
Causes of Wrinkles
Aging is also one of the main causes of skin aging. Years of sun exposure cause the supporting structures of the skin, primarily the collagen and elastin, to weaken and break down. In addition, as a person ages, the sweat and oil glands of the skin become less numerous and smaller in size. This causes the skin to lose moisture and to dry out. Dry skin with weak collagen and elastin will sag, shrivel, and wrinkle. The skin around the eyelids, jaw, and neck is especially thin, and therefore more naturally prone to aging.
Other environmental factors, including cigarette smoke and pollution, particularly ozone, may hasten ageing by producing oxygen-free radicals. These are particles produced by many of the body’s normal chemical processes in excessive amounts they can damage cell membranes and interact with genetic material, possibly contributing to the development of a number of skin disorders, including wrinkles and, more importantly, cancer. Rapid weight loss can also cause wrinkles by reducing the volume of fat cells that cushion the face. This not only makes a person look gaunt, but can cause the skin to sag.
Symptoms of Wrinkles
1. Deeplyformed lines.
2. Skin that is wrinkled may also have a tough, leathery appearance if the person has had a lot of exposure to the sun.
3. Fine, crinkling crosshatch marks.
Treatment of Wrinkles
There are numerous over-the-counter treatment options for wrinkles, including various creams and lotions. Prescription treatments, including the retinoid cream renova, are also an option.Removing skin layers to reduce wrinkles or irregular depressions is an effective way to regain smoother, more youthful looking skin. Dermabrasion (scraping layers away) and chemical peels (dissolving skin away) are two of the traditional methods used in skin resurfacing.
Laser skin resurfacing with an ablative laser (such as an erbium or carbon dioxide laser) is another technique that, like dermabrasion and deeper chemical peels, may require some downtime during the healing process. Other treatment options include Dermabrasion, a procedure that sands away the top layers of skin. Injection of substances such as fat or collagen, which is a gelatin-like substance, under the skin. It is one of the traditional methods used in skin resurfacing. Other lasers, known as non-ablative lasers, may also be beneficial in treating wrinkles. These lasers work by heating the dermis and stimulating collagen growth. This process, which leaves the outer layers of skin intact, has no downtime associated with it. Botulinum toxin- this is used for wrinkles between the eyebrows and around the eyes. The toxin is injected into the muscle that caused the wrinkle. It paralyzes the muscle, so that the wrinkles gradually disappear when the muscle isn’t used.

We Are What We Absorb, Not What We Eat
Our modern diet is so far removed from the diet our ancestors ate, and from nature that many of the essential chemicals our body needs to maintain itself are missing.
Ancient hunter gathers would have lived on a diet of fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and fish. In comparison our diets are full of over processed carbohydrates, salt, sugar, fats and a huge number of chemicals in the form of colours, additives, preservatives, artificial flavorings – to name just a few.
It has long been recognised and acknowledged by the medical profession that to maintain a healthy lifestyle we need a balanced diet which includes all of the basic elements – minerals, vitamins, amino acids and various enzymes.
Many people are finding that despite eating healthily they cannot source the nutrients needed. Due to the consumer demand for cheap food, we have encouraged and pressurized the food industry, from farmer to supermarket, to mass produce our food. From battery poultry farming to mass growing fruit and vegetables, most of the products we buy to consume are produced on a large scale.
The side effect of this mass production is food with poor or no nutritional value. On the television last night I watched a report on the news which highlighted that most of the western world are consuming thousands of calories a day while suffering from more malnutrition related diseases than ever.
The reason is down to our food production. We have depleted the soil by over farming and the use of modern farming techniques – which no longer include crop rotation but do include a vast number of fertilizers and pesticides. Because we source a vast amount of food from out of the country, which requires travelling great distances – the produce is picked before it is ripe and before it has reached its nutritional potential.
This is also happening in our livestock production. It has also been reported on the news recently that turkeys are slaughtered at the age of 12 weeks. You might ask why - this is because we, as the consumer want a succulent smaller turkey – which means younger underdeveloped poultry. This results in a lack of nutritional value and for the more discerning consumer – a lack of taste and flavour.
In the last few years there has been more awareness of what we are eating, where it has come from and how we are abusing our power as consumers. The changes have been slow to start with but there is now a more noticeable change in the food being stocked in the supermarkets.
Initially the changes related to organic produce and there have been many discussions about the best not always being beautiful !!! But with more awareness of nutrition values there has been a swing away from organic food, to food which is locally produced and sourced. It is now well known that the longer it takes for your food to reach your plate from its source, the less nutritional value it will have. Obviously with some foods we have no choice – this country does not have the suitable climate to grow citrus fruit, bananas and olives etc.
As well as the nutritional benefits of a shorter chain from producer to shop, there are less transportation costs and the carbon footprint is minimised. Also consumer confidence is increased as labels often clearly show the farm where it was produced.
Fish has also been affected by consumer demand with fishing restrictions and quotas common place as we have come very close to wiping out some species with over fishing. The knock on effect for the consumer is that this once cheap and abundant food has become more expensive, consequently less fish is now being eaten.
This consumer awareness has also led to a growth in the nutritional supplement industry, which is now worth billions. This industry had traditionally been led by the vitamin pill, which has received substantial amounts of bad publicity. Because of the content of many of these tablets our body is unable to break them down and absorb them. There have been many studies and it is estimated that only 10-20% of each of the pills we take are absorbed. So 80-90% of what you paid for your tablet supplements is flushed down the toilet.
Most tablets and capsules have been designed and tested to dissolve in the stomach but not all pills and capsules produced in the same way. Some are compressed at extremely high pressures during manufacturing and do not break down properly in the stomach. I found an interesting fact about this – in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA – each month the filters of their sewage system gets clogged with over 150 gallons of undigested supplement pills.
As with all industries, there is ongoing research and development, and technological leaps forward – the nutritional supplement industry is no different. With the realization that tablets aren’t effective and the consumer becoming aware that they are flushing away their money – new delivery systems have been developed.
Now you have multiple options – there are capsules, liquids and gels.
Capsules – these are normally herbal based supplements that can easily be broken down by the stomach acid and absorbed. An alternative method that can be used, is to split open the capsule and add it to another food product such as juice or smoothie.
Liquids – these are a great way to absorb vitamins and minerals, you body can start absorbing them as soon as you swallow as it is already in a form that does not need to be broken down by your digestive system. Liquids are also becoming more popular because a lot of people either don’t want to swallow pills or they are unable too, which makes this a more attractive option to older and younger people.
Gels – there are the latest delivery system to hit the market. Nutritional supplements are most effective when ingested according to the optimal timing guidelines for each individual supplement. Some nutrients are better absorbed when taken with meals. Others are best when consumed at pre–determined intervals prior to food ingestion in order to maximize the effect of their active ingredients, or to avoid conflicting uptake mechanisms with other food particles.
Gel supplements are packaged in convenient gel packs that are highly portable, allowing availability at the appropriate time—no matter when it is. In addition, the gel can often be ingested without water, which means you can take them out and about with you, where ever you go. By encouraging and allowing the correct timing and ingestion of food supplements, gel technology enhances the absorption and utilization of each nutrient.
The introduction of gel technology means all nutrients remain in their natural state, optimizing bioavailability, and increasing the absorption and digestion of essential vitamins and minerals.
In a nutshell, Gel supplements have the potential to change the way we take nutritional supplements.
By increasing the ease–of–use and enhancing absorption, gel technology widens the scope of supplementation—allowing a wider audience to benefit from dietary and nutritional improvements.

Fat-Burners for Weight Loss - Powerful Weapons That Can Help You Win the War on Fat
Over one half of the United States adult population is overweight. One third qualify as obese. Given these statistics and the mounting evidence linking excess weight to a host of health problems, it’s not surprising that many of us have declared war on our fat and are engaged in a fierce battle with our extra pounds. And thanks to America’s irrepressible entrepreneurial spirit, several companies have jumped into the fray with new products designed to melt our unwanted fat into oblivion. The good news is a lot of these fat-burning supplements actually work. But before you start using any of them, there are a few things you need to know.
First, don’t expect miracles. No matter what the advertisements say, no supplement will burn fat while you sleep. In fact, taking most of them at bedtime will just keep you up all night. And put out of your head any thought that a pill will single-handedly return you to your once sleek self. Fat burners can help you lose weight, but you still have to do the work. Be reasonable. Even if it were possible to slenderize without making any changes in your lifestyle or eating habits, how long do you think the weight will stay off once you stop taking the pills? And that brings us to your second reality check – you can’t take most of these supplements indefinitely. The ingredients in some of them can be unhealthy if used for too long a time.
Know Your Enemy
Weight gain can occur for a variety of reasons. So, before taking a fat-burning supplement there are a number of things you’ll want to do. Have your thyroid function tested. An under-active thyroid gland can make it impossible for you to lose weight. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep. Recent evidence suggests that inadequate sleep can put your body into insulin resistance. In plain English that means you’ll have a tendency to gain weight and a hard time taking it off. Eat regular meals. Skipping breakfast or lunch is a sure-fire way to put the brakes on your metabolism and slow your body’s fat burning potential to a crawl. Limit your intake of starchy carbohydrates and simple sugars. If you continue to consume these easily accessed sources of energy, your body will never get around to burning its stores of energy – the fat you want to lose. Lastly, get enough exercise. According to the experts, the absolute minimum amount required for weight loss is 3 – 50 minute sessions of cardiovascular exercise a week. Don’t bother doing 30 minutes. It’s the last 20 that produce the results. If, after making these adjustments, you are still unable to lose weight, a fat-burner may be just what you need.
Thermogenics to the Rescue
Many over-weight folks have a sluggish metabolism. Their bodies have a tendency to store food as fat before it can be burned for fuel. Thermogenic (heat generating) agents rev up the body’s metabolic rate and boost its energy expenditure. The result is a greater need for stored energy, which can translate into significant weight loss. But be advised, they’re not for everybody. For a variety of reasons too numerous to mention here, people with diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmia, prostate hypertrophy, thyroid disease, glaucoma and those taking anti-depressant medications should not use them.
The Ephedrine – Caffeine – Aspirin Stack
This is the heart and soul of most, but not all thermogenic products. Ephedrine is a beta-receptor stimulator on the brown adipose tissue (BAT), which is a fancy way of saying it burns fat. The combination of caffeine and ephedrine produces twice the thermogenic effect as ephedrine alone. In one study, overweight women taking ephedrine and caffeine had 100% more fat loss and 72% less muscle loss than those taking a placebo. In another study in which patients were not put on a diet, the combination of ephedrine and caffeine plus aspirin caused three times more weight loss than the placebo. Caffeine and aspirin both appear to modulate activities in the body that would otherwise inhibit ephedrine’s thermogenic activity. This combination produces one more benefit – appetite suppression. For the first week or two there is a significant reduction in appetite. By the time this effect wears off, the thermogenic activity has kicked in and one should be able to eat a reasonable amount of food and continue to lose weight.
Safety First
I tell my clients to start with small doses and increase them gradually over a few weeks. In addition, I suggest limiting their use to 5 days a week, with weekends off, and discontinuing them for 3 weeks every 3 months. This gives the central nervous and endocrine systems an opportunity to re-establish homeostasis on a regular basis, reducing the chance of becoming dependant on the stimulating agents. If you notice any nervousness, irritability, sleeplessness or nausea reduce or stop using them.
In my opinion, ephedrine should be limited to a maximum of 25 mg per dose, caffeine to 100 mg and aspirin to 82 mg, taken with breakfast and lunch. Read labels carefully. Ephedrine may be listed as ephedra or ma huang. Caffeine can appear as kola nut, mate or guarana. Aspirin may occur in its natural form, white willow bark.
More Ammunition
The combination of ephedrine and caffeine can make some people jittery. Fortunately, a few manufacturers of fat-burners have come up with effective formulas that avoid the use of stimulants. The best will contain one or more of the following ingredients:
- Pyruvate – 2-5 grams daily can significantly increase fat loss. Pyruvate also improves exercise endurance and athletic performance. It appears safe even at high doses.
- Chromium Picolinate – Involved in glucose metabolism, 200-400 mcg helps to regulate blood sugar and convert fat into muscle.
- Carnitine – Transports fat into the mitochondria, the cells’ metabolic furnace, where it can be burned for fuel. Optimum doses range from 1,000 to 4,000 mg a day. The tartrate form is preferable. A diet low in carbohydrates and high in omega-3 fatty acids improves carnitine’s performance.
- Garcinia Cambogia – Also know as Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA), has been shown in laboratory studies to reduce the conversion of dietary carbohydrates into fat by inhibiting certain enzyme processes. It may also suppress appetite. 500-2,000 mg of the extract will produce maximum benefits.

Acne Skin Care Treatment - 7 Easy and Effective Home Treatments You Can Do From Home
Acne can be an every day battle if you don’t have the upper hand. I have been suffering from acne for a few years now and just now been able to get a grip, and take charge of my acne problem. I tried everything from Proactive to over the counter face creams. If you don’t think natural treatments work you are missing out on a great thing. Natural treatments for acne alone can be the best acne skin care treatment.
Let’s look at some of the best things that you can do from home to start you on the path of winning your battle with acne. These skin care treatment are very simple and very effective.
Acne Skin Care Treatment 1
Toothpaste. Yes, you heard me right. Toothpaste, especially the real minty kind, can be a real life saver if you are in a tight pinch. Apply some toothpaste to swelling or swollen bumps right before bedtime and leave it there overnight. You will notice that in the morning the redness and swelling will be down a lot.
Acne Skin Care Treatment 2
Lemon and Water. The first thing you need is the skin off of a lemon. Take this with some warm water and wash your face with the skin of the lemon. This is known to have great results as a natural face wash. It will help dry the pimples and clear your skin. I know it sounds silly but it works. After washing, leave it on your face around 30 minutes to dry. Then you can wash your face with your normal face wash.
Acne Skin Care Treatment 3
Water. This is the best treatment that I have for you that is simple but so effective. There are so many people that do not get enough water each day. If you want your skin to start looking better, you need to get more water. Drink at least 8 full glasses each day, and try to aim for 10-12. Water is a great natural remedy for acne because it will flush the toxins out of your body and help your skin heal.
Acne Skin Care Treatment 4
Sun. Another great thing that will help you get rid of acne is sun and fresh air. Don’t get so much sun that you will get sunburn, but make sure that you take a break out of each day to go out and get fresh air. This will promote the healing process of your skin and relieve stress, which is also known to cause more acne.
Acne Skin Care Treatment 5
Popping Pimples. Just don’t do it. Popping pimples can lead to very bad things. You will spread the bacteria that are on your face causing more acne to show up. You also have the chance of pressing the pus down further down into your skin which can lead to cystic acne. That is the last thing that we want. I know it can be tempting, but just don’t do it.
Acne Skin Care Treatment 6
Stay Out of The Kitchen. When foods are frying you need to stay away from the kitchen. The grease becomes airborne and settles all over everything including your skin. This will then clog your pores and cause you to get more acne. So, if you are fixing dinner, either have someone else fry, or choose to bake this time.
Acne Skin Care Treatment 7
Long Hair. If you have long hair that touches your face and neck, this could be a main cause of the acne that you have. Try to make sure that you wash your hair every day and wash it with a soap that will get rid of all of the oils. You can also pull it up so that it is not touching your skin as much. Also, never touch your hair, and then touch your skin. This will cause clogged pores and more acne. Always wash your hands after handing your air and eating.
If you are serious about acne skin care, take these things and try them. Natural treatments will not harm you like all of the prescribed drugs and face washes.

The Truth About Smokers ‘Concentration Con’
Smokers make many excuses for not quitting. One of them is the ‘concentration con’. How many times have you heard a smoker say, ‘I’d like to quit, but it helps me concentrate’. Maybe you’ve said it yourself ?
In reality, smoking doesn’t help concentration from a medical viewpoint. So the idea that smoking helps concentration is just a perception, or an imagined positive reason for not quitting.
It’s true that withdrawal symptoms, starting not long after your last cigarette, cause feelings of irritability and restlessness. These feelings started because of cigarettes, and it’s strange that another cigarette should be the way to relieve them.
In fact, smoking makes concentration much harder, not easier. Although another cigarette temporarily relieves the symptoms caused by the cigarette in the first place, the cigarette is not the aid to concentration which many smokers wrongly choose to believe.
Truth is, smoking another cigarette will make concentration progressively harder. With any drug, you eventually need more and more of it to produce the same effect. A smoker will never be able to concentrate as well as a non-smoker. The more he smokes, the less relief he’ll get from each cigarette.
Let’s look at the medical side of the ‘concentration con’. Clogged arteries, caused by smoking, starve the brain of oxygen and reduce our ability to concentrate. Carbon monoxide, produced by cigarettes, is well-known as a poison… not an aid to concentration.
The ‘concentration con’ is an example of the psychological addiction that makes a cigarette slave of so many people.
Among the many reasons Smokers use to justify their habit, the ‘concentration con’ stands up to the least scrutiny. But it must be exposed as a con. Once it’s exposed, then it’s no longer a threat. Once the smoker is shown proof of the ‘concentration con’, and once he believes that proof, then this self-fulfilling belief disappears for ever.
This article has shown that lack of concentration is actually caused by smoking in the first place, and can be only temporarily relieved by another cigarette. One of the greatest benefits of quitting smoking is a return to a clear head, and the ability to properly concentrate again. Once you see the ‘concentration con’ for what it really is, you’re much closer to finally quitting smoking.

Ten Reasons To Use An Independent Review Organization (IRO)
Increasingly, healthcare providers, insurers, medical directors and case managers are turning to Independent Review Organizations (IROs) to collaborate on the decision-making process for medical claims. At question, however, is when in the decision-making process does this make the most sense? Here are the top 10 signs to identify when to bring in an IRO:
1. Your case is in a highly specialized area. Case managers often need access to a breadth and depth of medical expertise beyond what is available among their staff or extended network. Information and scientific advances in the medical field are increasing at unprecedented rates. Medical disciplines fragment into new specialties every year. There is simply too much medical information today for one doctor or case manager to keep up on. This means medical directors and claims managers need access to outside medical knowledge beyond their expertise. An IRO can provide such access to highly specialized doctors whose unbiased expertise is otherwise unavailable even to large healthcare companies or third-party administrators handling claims management. Because of the depth of expertise in its specialist network, and the volume and breadth of claims it reviews daily, an IRO provides a mechanism for quickly and consistently applying expert knowledge to medical claims decisions.
2. Your case has a high risk of appeal. With claims that have potential high appeal rates or other risks, health plan providers and insurers may want an external, independent and objective perspective about the claim. Using an IRO to decide cases based on medical need avoids the appearance that the case review might be tainted by potential biases of a doctor on their payroll, or even the financial goals of the insurer or administrating group.
3. Your case may be litigated. When it´s necessary to have a definitive decision based on medical fact, organizations must ensure that a case is reviewed properly. Using an IRO helps guarantee that questionable cases or appeals receive unbiased reviews as mandated by state and federal regulations and that patients receive the medical care directed by their healthcare insurance. In cases of litigation, an IRO documents how it decides every case providing an audit trail.
4. Your cost of a claim or treatment is high. Health insurers are under constant pressure to reduce costs. Outsourcing medical claims decision-making to an IRO allows providers to reduce expensive doctor overhead by paying only for what they need, when they need it.
5. Your case seems suspect. When dealing with suspected fraudulent cases, turning to an IRO to review the case can provide an objective, disinterested third-party response that exposes the deception. IROs can review a patient´s case to discover if treating doctors have followed all the necessary processes leading up to a proposed procedure and met accepted medical practices. They can also determine whether the patient needs the medical procedure recommended.
6. Your organization is subject to state or federal deadlines. When payers must meet mandated state and federal deadlines, they can use an IRO to hasten the review of a case to ensure that deadlines are met every time.
7. Your claims and reviews are piling up on your desk. Bringing in an IRO early in the case review process helps streamline case flow and increase case review productivity to ensure patients get the care they are entitled to as fast as possible.
8. You need an impartial review. Healthcare organizations may need a buffer for their clinicians from any real or perceived conflict of interest. IROs have no relationship with the organization, the doctor, or the patient, and provide objective decisions based solely on the latest medical facts.
9. You believe the treatment is experimental. Medical directors and case managers need to ensure that a denial or an approval is based on the accepted science of medicine. An IRO can often provide a review doctor with the same credentials as the one who made the original recommendation and who stays current with the latest medical necessity practices.
10. You have a shortage of specialists on staff. Claims decisions are made by doctors. An IRO can help your company expand its medical staff expertise without incurring the expense of full-time professional salaries. An IRO can serve as an extension of your medical office to provide expert knowledge to claims decisions because it has access to medical specialists within its network of doctors.
There is increasing pressure on payers and plan administrators to not only make the right decision for the patient but also reduce healthcare insurance costs, premiums and co-payments. To make this happen, many health insurers and third-party administrators are turning to IROs for deeper medical expertise, and approval or denial of a claim based on medical fact, not anecdotal evidence. Using an IRO is an efficient and defensible way to manage a health plan properly for both the insurer and the patient. As unbiased advocates for managing healthcare costs, IROs ensure that every claimant is properly served, every time.
