How Many Calories Can I Eat To Lose Weight?
On almost every diet, you may be asking yourself this simple question. “Exactly how many calories can I eat to lose weight?” Well, the simple answer is to eat fewer calories than your body burns on a regular basis. There is one EASY way that you can accomplish this without going hungry. It’s called the Negative Calorie Diet. There are over 100 foods out there that you can eat which burn more calories digesting them than you take in by eating them. If you can simply incorporate these foods into your daily diet, then you should soon start to notice improvements to your waistline. Now, these aren’t magical foods that instantly make you skinny, but over time they will help out tremendously by keeping you fuller throughout the day. This way you won’t crave the quick, fatty snack foods that caused the problem in the first place.
The Negative Calorie Diet came about from the idea that your body burns calories by digesting certain foods. Therefore, your body is actually burning fat just by digesting the food. For example, a stalk of broccoli contains about 25 calories. In order for you body to digest it, it must burn that amount of calories, plus some. That’s how you get the “Negative Calorie” effect. This provides a very simple answer to that earlier question of “How Many Calories Can I Eat To Lose Weight?” The answer is “as many as you want”, as long as you follow the guidelines of the Negative Calorie Diet.
Another benefit to this diet is that it helps speed up your metabolism by eating healthier meals. Obviously, people with a higher metabolism will benefit more than people with slower metabolism, but that’s no reason to avoid the Negative Calorie Diet. All you have to do in order to get superior results no matter what your body type is to combine this diet with some sort of exercise routine. Walking, or any other cardiovascular workout three days a week for 30 minutes each time will help tremendously.
Now, you’re probably wanting to find out what these “Negative Calorie Foods” are, right? Let’s bring up your earlier question, too: “How many calories can I eat to lose weight?”. I’ve listed a few of the foods that are in this group, but there are still many more. These foods are: asparagus, beet, broccoli, green cabbage, carrot, cauliflower, celery root, celery, hot chili peppers, cucumber, dandelion, endive, garden cress, garlic, green beans, zucchini, apple, cranberries, grapefruit, lemon, mango, orange, pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, tangerine, lamb’s lettuce, lettuce, onion, papaya, radishes, spinach, and turnips. Just try a few of the items on this list and you’ll see how you can easily follow this diet and lose weight. People that are more overweight may even see quicker results, as there body naturally burns more calories than thinner people, while sedentary.

Cluster Headache
It is inevitable that we sometimes suffer from headaches due to stress, hormones and anxiety. But there is one type of headache that is rare and very painful. This type of headache is called cluster headache and it can start suddenly without any previous symptoms. The pain you will experience will usually start behind one eye but the whole side of your face will become red and swollen.
Cluster headaches are quite frightening to both the person who is suffering and his family because it can occur without even the slightest provocation. You should note though that a cluster headache generally lasts for a few minutes in most cases although some people may suffer from cluster headaches for several hours in severe cases. There is a pattern you should expect when you experience having cluster headaches because it usually occurs on the same time of the day for several weeks. Then the headaches can stop altogether but it can come back after several months.
Right now, there is no sufficient proof that cluster headaches are in any way associated with any other types of diseases. Many believe the cluster headaches are hereditary but poor lifestyle habits can also cause the cluster headaches in some cases. Likewise, it is also observed that heavy smoking, inconsistent sleeping pattern and strong medications can worsen the symptoms of cluster headaches.
It is sometimes difficult to distinguish cluster headaches from other types of headaches because many of the symptoms are similar. But giving an accurate description of the symptoms you are experiencing to your doctor can help him make the correct diagnosis. Recording the pattern of your headaches is very important because cluster headaches occur with a constant pattern everyday. Letting your family members and relatives have a talk with the doctor about your behavior when headaches occur is also essential to be able to distinguish the type of headache you are experiencing.
In addition, some people are embarrassed about some of the actions they do when cluster headaches occur because they sometimes hit their head against the wall or the furniture to relieve the pain. These actions are actually quite common to people who suffers from cluster headaches because the pain they feel is very acute and severe. You should not hide these facts from your doctor so that he will be able to give you the correct medication through judging the severity of your headaches.
If you are diagnosed with cluster headaches, you should expect to take two medicines. One medicine is to reduce the number of headaches you experience during the cluster period and the other medicine is used to relieve the symptoms of the cluster headache. You should note though that medications that are ingested usually take a long time to work. For this reason, your doctor will most likely prescribe a medicine that can be inhaled or injected into the body for the medications to work immediately. Cluster headaches are one of the most painful headaches you will ever experience but with the right treatment and the right attitude, cluster headaches can be prevented in the future.

Widen Your Knowledge About Fats
Studies have showed that women who ate more than two portions a day of low fat dairy foods were 85 per cent more likely to be infertile due to ovulatory disorders. A woman will become fat easily when she has ovulatory disorder. Women who ate full-fat dairy foods, including ice cream, more than once per day had a 25 per cent reduced risk of infertility.
According to a Dr Chavarro, women who are trying to conceive, should change their diet for a while. Once they have become pregnant, then they should probably switch back to low-fat dairy foods as it is easier to limit intake of saturated fat by consuming low-fat dairy foods. Low fat dairy products include skim or low-fat milk, sherbet, yogurt, and cottage cheese. High fat dairy products include whole milk, cream, sour cream, ice cream, cream cheese, other cheese, and butter.
On the other hand, research has found that women who consumed a lot of low-fat dairy foods had a significantly lower risk of breast cancer than did women who rarely ate low-fat dairy foods. Specifically, women who consumed mostly skim milk and other low-fat dairy foods were 30% less likely to develop breast cancer than women who consumed the smallest amounts of these foods.
Saturated fat, trans-fatty acids and dietary cholesterol contribute to blood cholesterol whereas monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats don’t. Saturated fat is found mostly in foods from animals and some plants include butter, coconut oil, and palm oil. Monounsaturated fats are olive and peanut oil. Polyunsaturated fats are sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and corn.

Why You Should Use Saw Palmetto for Hair Loss Treatment
There are several reasons as to why you should consider using saw palmetto for hair loss. The main reason is that it is a natural herbal remedy with no documented side effects. In an era when drugs are routinely being recalled for causing horrific side effects, herbs can offer a safe and economical alternative.
History
Native Americans used the treatment of saw palmetto for hair loss. It was traditionally used as a topical treatment for conditions involving the hair, scalp and skin. The use of saw palmetto for hair loss has the backing of hundreds of years of use by the indigenous peoples of the Americas.
How Saw Palmetto Works Externally
When using saw palmetto for hair loss one option is using it as an external treatment by massaging it into the scalp and hair. You can purchase saw palmetto as an oil extract or as an ointment. One of the reasons saw palmetto has been so successful in the treatment of hair loss, particularly when used externally, is that its components are lipophilic in nature. This means they are well extracted into the oil base typically used, and are easily absorbed by the skin, therefore providing a more productive treatment.
The typical recommended external treatment is to massage the oil extract or ointment into the hair and scalp and let it sit there for at least one half hour, although the best results are obtained when it is left on the hair and scalp overnight.
How Saw Palmetto Works Internally
The beauty of using saw palmetto for hair loss treatment is it can be used both externally and internally at the same time to promote hair regeneration, and prevent further hair loss. It is thought that saw palmetto does this by restraining the effects of testosterone on the prostate. This in turn keeps the testosterone from changing into DHT, a compound that results in male balding. The dosage which is recommended is at least 160mg daily, and can be as much as 320 mg. If you are using saw palmetto oil extract the recommended dosage is ½ to 1 tsp per day.
Saw palmetto is universally one of the most easily obtained and used treatments for hair loss that exist today. It has a positive history of use by American Indians, and it can be taken both internally and externally together in order to increase the benefits. In a world where drugs are being taken off the market, using the herbal treatment saw palmetto for hair loss gives those with hair loss problems a natural, and safe alternative.

Skin Damage Factors
There are many factors that are responsible for skin damage. Skin also gets damaged by external factors. Sun is the main external factor that ages the skin. Ultraviolet radiation is the electromagnetic radiation. These radiations are not visible to necked eye.
A harsh detergent is the general name given to ionic detergents, which can be harmful to the skin. These detergents are called ionic because their molecule gets charged up when they come in contact with water. If you come across a product that contains ionic detergents, try to avoid the usage of such product or else look for similar products that have nonionic detergents or look out for a substitute for that product.
The hotter the water, greater is the chance of damage being done as the rate of chemical reactions increases with temperature i.e. the molecules scatter at very high speed when the temperature rises. Hence it is advisable to take bath with water that is warm and not hot and also you should not soak your body for too long in water.
Irritants can damage your skin in 2 ways. First, they have the capability to directly infect or damage cells and matrix of the skin. Second, it can also instill an inflammatory or allergic reaction in the skin, which can have a very bad effect on your skin because they may release destructive free radicals and also metalloproteinase’s or MMP.
Several different types of damage like infection, trauma, abrasions, burns, etc cause inflammation of the skin. It is a rare possibility but inflammation can also be caused by an auto immune response i.e. a malfunction of the immune system of the body, here it doesn’t require any external cause to exist.
Puffiness in the eye area is a very common appearance of mild facial edema.
There are many people who like to make faces, many a times to make kids laugh and at times trying to imitate a friend. Many of them may not realize that this could be a cause of wrinkles on their face.
These wrinkles are called motion wrinkles, which are caused by repeating a particular facial expression over a period of time.
Excessive cleansing strips the layer of the skin sebum and the skin may become dry, it may also lead to skin sensitivity and other problems. One should avoid cleaning and washing the face with hot water and also one should not wash the face more than two times a day.
All the cosmetic stuff contains potential skin irritants. To keep your skin healthy one should avoid the use of makeup, if used it should be in moderate amount, especially around the eye area. If you spend some time in finding the right product for you, it will definitely save money as well as prevent you from the possibility of damaging your skin.

Physical Activity - Good for Your Heart
“Man was not made to rust out in idleness. A degree of exercise is as necessary for the preservation of health, both of body and mind, as his daily food.” Joseph Breck, (1794-1873) American Agriculturist.
Regular physical activity decreases the risk of coronary heart disease. This is true for people who are healthy, and also for people with established coronary heart disease. In the Women’s Health Study, 39,372 healthy female health professionals were evaluated for the type and quantity of physical activity on the risk of cardiovascular disease. The authors, Dr. Lee and associates, reporting in the March 21, 2001 issue of Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), concluded that irrespective of the baseline body weight status, physical activity reduced the risk of cardiovascular disease. Dr. Wessel and colleagues reporting in the Sept. 8, 2004 issue of JAMA found significantly less coronary artery disease on angiography in 936 women undergoing the procedure for suspected coronary heart disease. In a study of 772 men aged 40-59 years old with established coronary artery disease, and reported in Circulation in September 14, 2000 by Dr. Wannamethee and co researchers, death rates were 50% lower in those who were physically active in comparison to those who were inactive.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American College of Sports Medicine recommends 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days. In spite of the compelling heart protective data related to physical activity, less than 50% of Americans are following these recommendations. And 25% of adults are not active at all in their leisure time. Unfortunately, insufficient physical activity is also prevalent in our youth, Daily participation in high school physical education classes dropped from 42% in 1991 to 33.0% in 2005. And about 10% of high school students do not take part in any moderate or vigorous physical activity.
“The first wealth is health.” Ralph Waldo Emerson. Regular physical activity has important health benefits across all age groups. Children and adolescents need weight-bearing exercise for normal skeletal development. In adults exercise helps in achieving and maintaining peak bone mass, well toned muscles and flexible joints and ligaments. Physically active individuals reduce their risk of developing diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. Studies indicate a decrease of upto 8 to 10 mm Hg in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure measurements, in patients who take up a regular exercise program. Physically active people also suffer from reduced rates of colon cancer, depression and anxiety. Physical activity improves the discomfort and disability associated with arthritis. One obese person once remarked, “Exercise is a dirty word. . . . Every time I hear it, I wash my mouth out with chocolate. No wonder inactive people are more obese. Regular exercise helps decrease body fat, reduce weight and improve general well being. There is some evidence that it boosts the immune system. Active people are more sexually active and have less erectile dysfunction. In older adults, activity helps them to live independently and perform more activities of daily living, It also. prevent falls in the seniors and decreases hospitalizations and overall mortality. Physically active people take fewer medications and have fewer physician visits. Health protective physical activity need not be strenuous - a 30 minute of brisk walking five or more times a week is beneficial. So the old adage, “no pain…no gain” is now passe.
The greatest health benefit of regular physical exercise is in preventing cardiovascular deaths. This results from a host of beneficial changes in hemodynamic, hormonal, metabolic, neurological, and respiratory function. Increased exercise capacity. improves the cardio-respiratory function and increases the maximal oxygen consumption. Exercise decreases high blood pressure, improves glucose metabolism and decreases insulin resistance. It helps reduce and maintain body weight. It improves circulation, stroke volume and cardiac output. It helps raise the good HDL cholesterol and decrease triglycerides. It increases blood volume and its ability to carry oxygen. It has a beneficial effect on the heart rate via an improvement in the autonomic nervous system. Strength training increases the strength of muscles, tendons and ligaments and also improves their flexibility. This translates into improved physical power, balance, and functional ability in older adults. Yoga and breathing exercises further help improve flexibility, balance the autonomic nervous system and reset breathing patterns.
A fat couch potato once said, “Whenever I get the energy to exercise, I sit down until it passes.“ There is no excuse to say no to exercise. Exercise will help you live healthier, happier and longer. Exercise should include aerobic cardiovascular exercises, resistance exercises, stretching exercises and yoga. For aerobic exercise, try walking - it is cheap and easy to do. Thomas Jefferson (1743 - 1826) said, “The sovereign invigorator of the body is exercise, and of all the exercises walking is the best.” The next step up is jogging. This however puts more impact and stress on the body. Riding a bike or swimming are excellent no impact exercises. Resistance exercises should include chest wall push ups, back standing rows, shoulder presses, leg squats, abdominal crunches, biceps and triceps curls, and standing calf exercises. The third part of the exercise circuit is stretching. This should include stretching exercises for the back, chest, shoulders quadriceps, hamstrings, and the calves. Yoga is great for improving spine flexibility and improving breathing technique and rhythm.
Exercise can also be obtained by incorporating more activity into your daily routine. Examples are walking up the stairs instead of using elevators, gardening , raking leaves, dancing, carrying grocery bags instead of using a shopping cart, walking instead of driving for short journeys and parking farthest away and walking to the office or store. Washing and waxing your car, vacuuming, mopping, and dusting, and mowing the lawn can also provide a great work out. Sports such as hiking, canoing, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling or surfing, and horseback riding will get you in shape while incorporating fun. Golfers can carry their golf bags and walk instead of using a cart or caddy.
“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but instead will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.” Thomas Edison. Regular Physical exercise is a critical disease preventing human behavior. Incorporate this behavior into your daily life and you will reap the fruits quickly. As Jill Johnson said, “”Living a healthy lifestyle will only deprive you of poor health, lethargy, and fat.”

4 Top Cause Of Hair Loss In Women
Did you know that 20% of women suffer hair loss? It is normal to shed a few hairs each day but some people may experience excessive hair loss. What are the factors that cause hair loss in women?
Common factor that contributes to hair loss in women are stress. If you have undergone surgery or suffer illness, you may experience this type of hair loss. This is a temporary hair loss. Once you recover from your illness or your surgery, the problem will recede.
Hormonal imbalance is often associated with hair loss in women. The two hormones namely androgens (male hormone) and estrogen (female hormone) must be in balance to prevent hair loss. The cause of this hormonal imbalance may be due to hereditary reason. Research indicates that almost 50% of women suffer this type of problem over the age of 40. This hair loss in women typically result in thinning of hair, where majority of the loss is over the top and side of head. The solution for this problem is to correct the hormonal imbalance.
The same hormonal imbalance may be noticeable 3 months after giving birth. This is due to the normalization of excessive hormone secreted during pregnancy. Once given birth, the hormone reduced to pre-pregnancy level which resulted in hair loss. This is a normal cycle and should not be a cause for alarm.
Hair loss in women may also be caused by autoimmune disease where the hair follicle are attacked by white blood cells. This resulted in the shrinking of the hair follicle and restrict hair growth. This type of hair loss is not typical in population as it affects only 2%. After some time hair may regrow, come back in patchy areas or not regrow at all.

Dry Eyes, Symptoms and Treatment
Dry eyes may result when the eyes do not produce either enough or a poor quality tears. The tears are manufactured in the Lacrimal gland and other glands in the eye, and are comprised of 5 components. Among the parts of the tears are enzymes, water and mucous. If any part is not represented in sufficient quantity, then the tear film will not coat the cornea properly. This will result in dry, sandy, burning red eyes.
A lack of quantity of the tears will result in the same symptoms. Decreased tear quality or quantity may result from infection, trauma, blocked tear glands called Meibomianitis, disease and even age. If the glands in the lids are blocked then lid cleaning, warm compresses and even oral medication may be required to alleviate the condition.
Traditionally, artificial tears like Systane, Refresh or Genteal were recommended, but a new treatment has shown to be very effective in reducing the symptoms and condition. If left untreated, in certain cases the cornea my become scared, and thus reduce the vision. The new treatment modality includes the use of topical steroid eye drops like Lotemax 3 times per day for 2-3 weeks, artificial tears 4 times per day and the use of Omega III pills. Since the new theory is that dry eyes are caused by an allergy involving the tear producing glands and then an inflammatory condition of this same tissue, this treatment modality addresses these concerns individually and increases tear production. It does require at least 2-3 months to begin to notice improvement in symptoms. If this treatment does not resolve the condition then Restasis eye drops is prescribed. This is Cyclosprin which is an old medication and is an anti-autoimmune medication. It has been shown to increase tear production. It is quite expensive and does take at least 2-3 months to begin working. The patient must continue its use for 6-12 months for remediation of the symptoms.
If this treatment still does not completely eliminate the dry eyes, then Punctal plugs must be inserted. These are either collagen or synthetic plugs that are placed in the drainage area in the cornea of the lids. This prevents the tears from leaving the eye and thus improves comfort. The final treatment as a last resort is the use of wet cell eye glasses. These are glasses that look like swimming goggles and retain moisture in the eye area by physically sealing in the tear film.
In short, dry eyes are a common condition, but must be treated to prevent long term damage to the eye and keep an individual comfortable. Refractive surgery also causes dry eyes, but usually resolves with in 3 months. If your eye are dry then use artificial tears and see your eye doctor if the symptoms persists.

Stop Smoking Gum - To Use Or Not To Use?
Of the various smoking deaddiction methods available, the stop smoking gum is becoming very popular in recent times. Part of its popularity stems from the fact that it is extremely convenient to use. It only has to be unwrapped and popped into the mouth - that is all. And chewed like a normal gum. This simple gum is supposed to highly decrease the smoker’s craving for a cigarette and gradually take him or her away from the smoking habit.
The stop smoking gum is considered to be a safe remedy for smoking cessation. In fact, it is considered to be so safe that it is available over-the-counter in the US and is also available in the check-in shopping malls. But, is the stop smoking gum really as safe as it is made out to be? Can a smoker safely use it to curb his or her smoking habit? This does require some discussion.
The first thing to remember is that the stop smoking gum contains nicotine. Yes, you heard it right! The active component of the gum is nicotine. What is the logic of using nicotine to cure a nicotine addiction, you ask? Well, this works in a way. Let us see how. Nicotine is the addictive substance in the cigarette. It is the substance that keeps the smoker going back to the smoker each time. But nicotine does not cause the physical harm (that credit goes to the tar in the cigarette).
Therefore, there is a rational reason for using nicotine in the gum. The person’s craving for nicotine would be met, and they would also be saved from the damage to their body through the cigarette. Stop smoking gums are available in different concentrations of nicotine, with the highest being 4 milligrams. Heavy smokers begin with the more concentrated ones, and in due course of time, step down to lower concentrations. Over time, the addiction reduces and goes away completely.
But there is a body of experts who think this may not happen at all. They maintain that nicotine is an addictive substance and as long as it is introduced into the body, the addiction would not cease. In fact, there is a danger of an addiction to the gum itself. Several medical experts have found this contention to have some truth in it. That is the reason why many nonsmokers - and alarmingly, some underage children too - are buying these gums. It is enough evidence that the nicotine gum can create an addiction of its own.
Even the amount of nicotine that is present in the stop smoking gum can pose an issue. These gums can contain differing amounts of nicotine - ranging from 1 milligram to 4 milligram. It must be noted here that each cigarette contains about 1 milligram of nicotine. Therefore, the higher concentrations of the gum contain as much nicotine as four cigarettes put together. In addition, the gum can be kept in the mouth for as much as thirty minutes, which does mean more contact of the addictive substance.
The use of all nicotine replacement therapies is coming under strong controversy nowadays. The basic idea of this therapy was to keep people addicted to nicotine, but to reduce the health hazards that cigarettes cause. But these methods do not seem to be working in the broader sense. There are many people who have tried gums and other nicotine replacement therapies and then have gone back to smoking cigarettes just because their addiction was never really cured at all.
All in all, it is up to you to make the decision whether to use the stop smoking gum or not. Now that you know the facts, you be the judge.

Childhood Obesity Statistics
We cannot discuss obesity in the same terms when it deals with children as it relates to adults. Some researchers avoid the word “obesity” altogether in an effort to avoid stigmatizing individuals. Others use the term “childhood obesity” to speak of a general phenomenon. Nevertheless, obesity is indeed a problem among young people, no matter what terminology you choose to employ.
In the year 2001 in the United States, the Surgeon General released a report outlining the crisis of obesity that the country had fallen into. The point of the report was to generate steps towards taking care of this health problem, which has reached epidemic proportions. The following year, the IOM (Institute of Medicine) was called upon to draw up a prevention plan to help decrease the rising numbers of obese and overweight children in the United States. The idea was to study the behavior and cultural and environmental factors that contribute to childhood obesity while trying to find ways of preventing this from occurring on such a large scale.
The problem of children being obese is a grave one, in that it can have lasting effects on one’s emotional and physical health. In the year 2000, it was estimated that about a third of all children born in the United States are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes in their lifetimes.
People who are overweight and/or obese are at major risk for contacting severe chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and hypertension. For children afflicted with severe weight problems, they can contact gall bladder disease, liver disease, sleep apnea, and may run the risk of high cholesterol.
Children are also at risk for contacting asthma. Overweight boys tend to have a higher risk than overweight girls. The effect of asthma is greater in children who are nonallergic. A recent study concluded that asthmatic children who were obese suffered a lot more than non-obese asthmatic children. Obese children with asthma tend to wheeze more, require more medication, and end up having to make more visits to the emergency room.
In addition, there are the emotional and psychological repercussions that come with being overweight and obese. Young people are often stigmatized for their weight in a society that has little tolerance for this condition.
Then there are the financial costs of obesity. Since the late 1970s, the costs related to obese children at hospitals have tripled. Nationally, we spend over $100 billion each year on healthcare related to overweight and obesity.
The key to combating obesity seems to lie in energy balance – that is controlling the amount of calories that are consumed versus the amount of calories that are expended. So in other words, when we talk about fighting obesity, we have to talk about both eating and physical activity. This might seem pretty simple, but the fact is eating and physical activity are caught up in a number of complex social and environmental forces. In the last three decades that have seen the epidemic of obesity balloon out of proportion, the society has undergone major changes.
