Skin Care and Makeup Tips - Spring Is In - Winter Is Out
The arrival of spring brings more hours of sunlight and the glow of the new season. Barbara Harrington, Independent Distributor with SeneGence International® SenseCosmetics, has some special skin tips to get you out of winter’s gloom and into radiant, fresh skin for spring.
Spring is definitely the season of renewal and the time to revitalize your skin and refresh your skin care regimen to achieve the glowing fresh look.
Here are some of my best skin tips for obtaining the radiance of the Spring Season:
Moisture in all for seasons: Even though the gloomy, dull winter months have passed, it is still important to moisturize in all seasons, even spring, to balance PH and promote cellular renewal. “Many people think that it is vital to hydrate your skin only in the winter, but moisturizer helps nourish your skin and maintain its health all year long,” says Ms. Harrington.
Lighten up with lighter colors: Think about moving up a shade in shadow and blush hues for a clean spring look. “Dark colors can really weigh your face down during summer months,” says Ms. Harrington. “Right now warm, neutral colors such as gold, pink and turquoise are in style for this season’s fresh look.”
Your skin doesn’t stop at your neck: Remember to exfoliate and moisturize consistently to leave your entire body smooth and ready for the elements. With bathing suit season almost here, it’s important to make sure that you exfoliate and moisturize to keep your skin radiant and smooth. To enhance your skin’s beauty find a good body moisturizer with Shea Butter to help make your skin healthy, radiant and hydrated.
Glow with a year-round tan: Use a bronzer or self-tanner for a sun-kissed glow without the harsh, damaging effects of the sun. According to Ms. Harrington, a bronzer gives your skin a glow for the spring without having to battle the sun’s damaging UV rays. “Using a bronzer or self-tanner is a safe and healthy way to liven up your skin and create a natural-looking, luminescent glow,” said Ms. Harrington.

Yoga as a Lifestyle
A person interested in health and wellness should take a look at what yoga can offer. They may be surprised to find that many of the beliefs they held about yoga are not true. Many people underestimate yoga as a way to better their health and wellness. However, many others have found the truth and are living a healthier and happy yoga lifestyle.
Yoga is a low impact workout, but can also offer an aerobic workout. There are some forms of yoga that offer an amazing workout for the cardiovascular system. The focus on breathing and intense poses give the body an unbelievable workout that can be compared to almost any aerobic workout.
Yoga is great for a person of any fitness level. Poses can be modified for a beginner and advanced for someone more experienced. It is an exercise routine that can grow with a person. It is varied and there are many different types of yoga, so a person will not become bored.
Yoga is an exceptional fitness activity for health and wellness. Yoga is the exercise where breathing and stretching take the forefront. A person practicing yoga is working both their mind and body to bring about an overall good sense of health and wellness. Many see yoga as a lifestyle more than an exercise regime because it is so easy to cross over into daily life.
Yoga involves poses and breathing. A person works through various poses, while concentrating on breathing and relaxing. It works the body by manipulating and stretching it and it works the mind by relaxing and clearing it.
Believing in good balanced diet, taking vitamins and minerals. Daily exercise, yoga, stretching, breathing exercises, drinking enough water, meditation, relaxation, positive thinking, and trying to be happy. preferedforms.com preferedforms.com
Quick Tips For Acne Relief
Studies show that an estimated 80 % percent of people
experience acne at some point. This is true for both
males and females. What triggers acne is not really
known, however, most dermatologists agree on a few theories.
Acne usually shows up at pre-adolescence. Commonly
between the ages of eleven and thirteen. What a bummer!
Just when we get to notice the opposite sex….Bam!
Acne rears its ugly head. Or whitehead, as the case may be.
Changes in hormone levels attribute to acne. This can
be true at any age, not just at the early years.
Both males and females experience increased hormone
levels as their bodies change. These hormones are
called androgens, and will enlarge the facial glands.
The oil produced is known as sebum. The hair follicles
shed dead cells too quickly and the cells and sebum
form a blockage in the gland.
Nowadays, doctors and advertisements offer us different
products that might help solve our worries about acne.
Most of these are topicals and are sold over-the-counter
cures.
I don’t know about you, but I would rather NOT pay for
something if I have an alternative already lurking in
my house, or yard.
There are actually acne home remedies that you can find
and use inside your home or in your garden. All you have
to do is to know how you can use that acne home remedy
to finally say goodbye to your acne worries.
Don’t forget to brush your….face?
There is still no scientific basis nor findings yet that
discusses how the toothpaste can actually sometimes lessen,
if not cure, the spread of acne. It might be a result of
trial and discovery that made the toothpaste serve not
only to clean the teeth but also as an acne home remedy!
To use it, just apply it directly to your zits before
sleeping. This is believed to help control the swelling
overnight. Just make sure that it is not the gel but
the paste.
And be sure to remove it before going out the next day!
Bushes, Shrubs and Other Remedies
There are herbs and other plants that also proved to serve
as a good acne home remedy.
*You can try methi (fenugreek) leaves made to a paste
and applied to stay in your face for 10-15 minutes.
*Two cloves of crushed garlic applied twice a day is
another choice, just bear with the strong smell of
this acne home remedy!
*A combination of witch hazel, tea tree and sweet fennel
essential oils put into water can also give satisfactory
results. Just always stir or shake it before applying
with cotton wool twice a day.
*Aloe Vera is also proven to be great as an acne home
remedy! Just make a juice out of it and apply it twice
a day for the fast healing.
*Cucumber will never be out of the list for beauty
regimen. Apply a paste of it as a mask and leave it
for 30 minutes.
*A paste of ground radish, as well as ground sesame
seeds, are also very good options to help get your
acne cured.
So, there you have it. All you have to do is look around
the house, or yard, get in touch with nature, and start
seeing that shiny, clear, pink skin you almost forgot
you had!

Finding the Proper Diet to Suit Your Needs
Have you heard the saying “like fitting a square peg in a round hole”? That is what many people are doing when they go on a diet. They simply choose a diet based upon the fact that their cousin’s sister in law lost x number of pounds on it. Little consideration is given as to whether or not they will like the recommended foods or even if they will be able to stick with the diet. For example, if I were to go on a diet that requires a great deal of time for meal preparation – I would surely fail. I might start off out the gate running but would inevitably fail because of lack of preparation time. I should have considered preparation time before attempting to follow this particular diet. I am a huge advocate of being prepared – but being prepared for me is having a meal replacement shake or bar in my car at all times.
Here are some things to consider when choosing a diet:
Do I like the recommended foods and will I be able to eat them in the amounts the diet recommends? Let’s face it – if you don’t like the foods you will probably not finish the diet. Likewise, if the portions are unusually small then you will more than likely deviate from the diet.
Does the preparation time for the foods agree with your schedule? Some diets require very little food preparation while some require elaborate meals to be prepared. Consider the amount of time you have to spend on food preparation compared to the amount of time the diet will require. Some diets have heat and serve meals that can be purchased while others may require you to purchase items from the grocery store and prepare the meals yourself. Other diets may require you using an instant meal replacement shake or bar once or twice per day.
Does the diet promote a healthy lifestyle and long term permanent weight loss? A healthy balanced diet will help you be happier and more positive. Eating an abundance of any particular food could lead to an imbalance – not to mention a burnout. Most experts agree that ½ to 1 pound per week is about the max you want to try and lose for long term, healthy weight loss. Calorie restrictions beyond what it takes to lose this amount could leave you feeling weak, depressed, non-motivated, and perhaps even sick. Choose a diet that has your health in mind and you will more than likely be able to maintain the positive mindset it takes to stick with that particular diet. Also, you want a diet that encourages you to change your long-term eating habits so that your eating becomes more of a lifestyle than a diet.
These are just a few of the things to think about when choosing a diet. The market is flooded with diets that will suit just about anyone’s taste so shop carefully and think long term.

To Quit Smoking You Need The Secret Ingredient!
I am an expert in giving up smoking. I have often stated in my articles and ebooks that I do really loathe the term ‘Expert’. But I have to claim the title, as I have succeeded quitting smoking over one hundred times.
Even worse so is the term ‘Guru’. In my opinion, in the Internet world today, there are FAR to many of these, mainly self-proclaimed, ‘Supermen/women’ to help you achieve or point you in the direction of every type of success you can imagine. Apart from the business success that they generally claim to be able to bestow, they also claim to be able to MAKE you quit smoking, lose weight or even (believe it or not) cure cancer and other frightful conditions.
I believe that there are ‘gifted’ people who can draw on unknown powers that exist and are able - sometimes - to achieve a stunning cure or help in a manner that would appear to be nothing short of miraculous. However, we’re not talking about these people or these types of incidences. I’m talking about the ones that can ONLY guarantee their miracles if you BUY their product or their service.
As far as the ‘quit smoking’ claim is concerned, there are in fact, a number of bonafide and medically proven prescription and herbal or natural compounds that can and do often help people to achieve their goal to be ’smoke free’. So, a promise or guarantee that a product WILL achieve this for you is only a ‘half lie’ as it is possible and has been known to work time and again. The fact about the guarantee that makes it questionable is that there MAY be one ingredient missing, which is essential in order for these products to work.
I’m not a heavy smoker, but not a light smoker either (about 20 a day, which I classify as average or normal, among smokers, at least). I would love not to have to calculate if I have enough cigarettes to do me until the morning (I usually work at night). I’d love to be able to avoid spending in the order of $50 a week on tobacco (that’s $2,600 a year). I’d like to not be considered a social outcast in most public indoor places and most people’s homes, being banished to the cold and the rain or stinking heat outside to have a cigarette (although I perfectly understand their need and their right for clean, safe air and a pleasant smelling home). I’d like not to have to take a quick trip to the shop at 2 am, in the cold and rain because I’ve run out smokes. In the nutshell, I’d really like to be able to quit smoking - for good!
Did you here what I just said? “I’d really like to be ABLE to quit smoking - FOR GOOD!
So, with all the reasons I’ve given above, plus a myriad of others, there is plenty of motivation for me to quit WITHOUT even considering the health and medical implications of my habit, which are even more compelling. Smoking is physically harmful and it is a KNOWN cause of many deadly conditions, which I have no need go through here.
Why do I continue to smoke or why do I go back to smoking a very short time after each of my very lame attempts to quit smoking? Simple. I ENJOY IT. I like to smoke. I have smoked for 30 years and I can’t imagine life without smoking. I’d love to have a crack at it, but I am still up against the conscious (and subconscious) knowledge that this is something that I am going to miss very much. I am also, as has probably been gleaned from this article so far, that I am not blessed with a great deal of will power (or whatever other name you want to give it).
For 15 months I helplessly watched my wife, for whom I would have gladly given my own life, die of lung cancer nine years ago (at the age of 43). Even after that, now at the age of 46 (I was a few years younger than Kathy), I still smoke. Am I a little bit crazy…? What do you think?
As I said earlier, there are many good products that work well in making the challenge to quit smoking much easier. Both those approved and condoned by mainstream medicine and many others of a herbal or natural nature all work well. But they will only work if the one, single, important ingredient exists - The WILL to quit smoking. Not the need, the want or all the sensible arguments and reason but the WILL to succeed, the determination. In fact, I’ve heard so many who have succeeded, that it wasn’t really all that difficult because they REALLY wanted to quit smoking badly.
I hope that one day soon, I will want to quit smoking badly enough to actually succeed but I know that no matter what cure or help I get, it won’t work if I really don’t want it to. How can it? If you smoke, I hope that you will want to quit smoking soon, too. Good Luck!

The Basics of Hearing Aid Repair
A regular part of owning hearing aids is repair and maintenance, especially in the first year of use. But, proper handling of your new hearing aids can save you the trouble and money.
Why Do Hearing Aids Need Repairs?
One of the biggest reasons why hearing aids need to be repaired is simply earwax and moisture. This accounts for 3/4 of all hearing aid repairs, and you can prevent it. Earwax builds up on hearing aids, especially smaller models. This is why it is particularly important to clean and take care of your hearing aids properly.
Clean your hearing aids with a warm cloth or tissue. Never let water come into contact with them, because they contain sensitive electronic parts.
Aside from getting dirty, hearing aids most often need to be repaired because of the electronics. Receivers often need to be replaced. Over a long period of time, electronics wear out, and your hearing aids may need new wiring.
The best way to save money on costly repairs is to handle your hearing aids properly, and make sure you are keeping earwax and other dirt out of them.
How Often Do I Need To Get Repairs?
Usually, smaller hearing aids need more repair and maintenance than larger ones. This means that CIC, or completely-in-the-canal hearing aids are the most often in need of repair. It’s not because they are fragile and break easily, but because they require more regular maintenance than other types of hearing aids. They are also most sensitive to wax buildup.
All hearing aids need regular repairs or maintenance. With in-the-ear hearing aids, you may have to have something on it repaired every year or 15 months. In-the-canal hearing aids will need to be repaired more frequently, from 9 months to a year. And, completely-in-the-canal hearing aids will probably have to be worked on every 7 to 9 months.
Where Should I Take Them?
It is usually recommended that you take your hearing aids to an audiologist for repair, rather than sending them to the supplier.
How Much Will It Cost?
It varies quite a bit. Older hearing aids cost more to fix than newer ones, because the parts may be hard to find. Also, you will have to pay more if you have to send it to the manufacturer for repairs, rather than having it done in-house.
You should expect to pay at least $100 for circuit changes, although it could be much more.
Warrantees And Guarantees
When buying a hearing aid, make sure that your dealer carries a good warrantee. Warrantees differ by manufacturer, but you should be able to find one that covers repairs for an extended period of time. All warrantees will cover repairs in case of shoddy workmanship or faulty parts.
There should at least be a one-year full coverage warranty. When you first start wearing hearing aids, there will be some routine check-ups and maintenance, and they should be covered by your supplier.
Hearing aid repairs are covered under some insurance plans, but are not usually covered. If you wear hearing aids, you should definitely look for insurance that will pay for your maintenance and repairs.
The most common causes for hearing aid repairs, moisture and earwax buildup, are entirely preventable. Make sure to clean them with each use, and you can save money!

Complementary and Alternative Medicine Overview
Complementary and Alternative Medicine or CAM are diagnostic or therapeutic techniques that are outside the mainstream of Western medicine. Alternative medicine is used in place of conventional medicine while complementary medicine is used along with conventional medicine though some of the treatments methods are the same. Although most people utilize mainstream medicine for diagnosis and basic information, many are now turning to alternatives for what they believe to be total body health-enhancing measures.
CAM is very popular with people who are terminally ill and has also been used on animals. There have also been sufficient instances of “inexplicable” extension of life and other significant health benefits for people who have pursued these options that the Western health systems are now seriously starting to further assess these systems. Alternative medicine is a fairly broad term which covers many different methods of treatment such as acupuncture, homeopathy, Chinese herbal medicine, Ayurvedic and more.
Therapies such as biofeedback, massage, and exercise are also considered alternative medicine. Alternative medicine includes various systems of healing or treating disease such as chiropractic, homeopathy, and faith healing. Alternative medicine is a comprehensive approach to healing that uses natural methods to bring physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual harmony. Alternative medicine systems believe body has a network of channels (meridians) that carry a subtle form of life energy. Since it uses a holistic approach and time-tested, natural remedies, hands-on treatments to help enable the body’s own innate powers to do the healing, alternative medicine requires the patient to take a highly active part in healing their own body including prevention and treatment.
Complementary Medicine is sometimes used by “conventional” medical practitioners as an add on to “conventional” medical treatments such as drugs and surgery. Complementary therapies are used to improve wellness, prevent disease or treat health problems but the most popular and prevalent use remains pain control. Included in complementary medicine are a large number of practices and systems of health care like acupuncture, homeopathy, aromatherapy, osteopathy, reflexology and chiropractic that for many reasons have not been fully adopted by mainstream medicine. Complementary medicine also includes dietary and nutritional therapies such as macrobiotics, vegetarianism, and orthomolecular medicine.
Although CAM is starting to gain popularity in the West, most clinical research by the health care industry continues to focus on the success of each single modality or therapy within these systems. This is unfortunate as CAM is generally based on the belief that you need to, simultaneously, treat the whole person - body, mind, and spirit - which can include the use of many therapies at the same time.

Bladder Control Exercise
If you suffer from bladder control problems there are many options you can choose that can help you with your condition. One of the healthiest ways to restore function to your bladder is through Kegal exercises which are exercises that strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. These are the muscles that support your vagina, urethra, and bladder which is where your body stores urine. The body then sends the urine out of your body through the urethra.
It has been proven that strengthening your pelvic floor muscles will lower the possibility and even help prevent stress incontinence. To define incontinence it is the frequent or severe leaking of urine from the bladder. Sometimes this leaking can be caused by laughing, sneezing, coughing, or physical activity and is still referred to as incontinence.
Bladder muscles are commonly weakened by frequent heavy lifting over time, the loss of the female hormone estrogen after menopause, being extremely obese and recurrent urinary tract infections.
You can begin by starting and stopping the flow of urine while you are urinating. Doing this will help you use the muscles and familiarize you with them. When you aren’t urinating you can tighten the muscles and hold it for five to ten seconds about twenty times while increasing the repetitions gradually over time. Make sure you relax the muscles for equal amounts of time.
The great thing about Kegal exercises is that they are so convenient and easy to do that you can literally perform them anywhere, anytime. It is impossible for anyone to see that you are doing them, and the fast results will be encouraging. Even when you have achieved the level of control you were looking for you should still perform the exercises regularly to keep the muscles strong.
You should check your personal technique in the mirror every now and then to make sure that you aren’t using your stomach or buttock muscles by placing your hand on your stomach or buttocks as you tighten. If you are doing the exercise correctly you shouldn’t feel your stomach or buttocks tighten. You should see results within three or four weeks.
The women who are over the age of fifty and are experiencing bladder control problems can talk to their doctors about using an estrogen cream. An estrogen cream combined with Kegal exercised will greatly improve the strengthening of the muscles that are around the bladder and vagina.
If Kegal exercises alone aren’t effective you can combine them with other treatments such as medications that can help strengthen the bladder muscles as well as lower the urge to urinate.

Ulcers - What Doctors Don’t Want You To Know
If you have an ulcer, you know the extreme pain and discomfort that can accompany them. Well, actually there are two types of ulcers. Some are almost completely harmless and you might not even now that you have one. The other kind, the bad kind, I would liken to more of an alien trying to break through your stomach cavity and breathe the free air of the world. If you have this kind, you might want to read this article.
So what makes me qualified to write about Ulcers. Well for starters I had one for 4 months, which is about typical although they are known to come and go for much longer. I recently received an endoscopy and was given a clean bill of health. I also worked in the healthcare field for about 2 years and know first hand how the healthcare field, especially in combination with pharmaceutical companies, treats your symptoms and not your problems.
With an Ulcer, a Doctor will most likely do two things: give you a proton pump inhibitor and an anti-biotic for something called H-Pylori, bacteria that cause 80 percent of Ulcers. This is a pretty stock treatment plan, but one that can do more harm then good if you’re not careful. Let me dissect the problem for you.
First, proton pump inhibitors like Prilosec and Nexium are meant to cut off the acid production in your stomach. Sounds good if you want to stop the acid from eating away at your ulcer. But here’s the rub… acid is good. Your body needs acid to break down food and stave off infection. By taking away the acid production your stomach feels better, since the acid isn’t irritating your ulcer, but it’s a slippery slope. Because you aren’t producing acid, bacteria like H-pylori are allowed to breed more easily. Furthermore, your body gets accustomed to this PH level in your body. This is not good if you take these drugs for a long period of time. My mother has been taking Prilosec for the last five years and has no plans to get off (great consumer for the drug company, huh?). That’s fine for her, but as a young person of 26, I do not want to have to take a drug for the next 6o years of my life. It doesn’t seem right, does it? And if you do try to get off of the drug, your acid production will sky rocket since your body is used to having the proton pump blocker in place. You will have the worst heartburn you have ever experienced. So you can see how proton pump inhibitors can actually do more harm than good, but why are anti-biotic’s bad?
Like I said before, most ulcers are caused by H. Pylori infection, bacteria that can cultivate in your stomach. So modern medicine usually prescribes an anti-biotic to clear up the infection. Now, it is true that you need to kill off the H. Pylori or bad bacteria, but with most anti-biotics they also kill off the good bacteria in your stomach as well. Bacteria that help you fight off infection. It’s a little like chemotherapy for your stomach, it will kill the bad cells, but it will kill the good ones too.
Using anti-biotics also weakens your immune system instead of strengthening it. We are built around a drug society that teaches us to cure every cold or every infection with a drug; however that weakens are ability to fight off subsequent infections. Producing are own anti-bodies is essential to fighting off similar infections and diseases. In addition to the problems an individual has, collectively as a society we are being hurt as well. Those strains of bacteria are getting ever more drug resistant and dangerous. Now I’m not suggesting allowing your body to fight off gangrene, but just be a little more careful the next time your doctor prescribes something for the common cold.
So here is my take on the modern medicine paradigm, love it or hate it, we will all have to face up to it in the future. In my next blog I will show you how to cure an Ulcer without pharmaceutical drugs.

Fitness Magazines VS The Truth About Building Muscle
If you have any interest at all in building muscle mass and shaping your body, you have for sure seen the fitness magazines on the rack talking about workout plans, fad diets, and home gym setups. Without a doubt you have also seen the sculpted bodies in the pictures, and the seemingly easy way in which they were built. But be careful before taking their advice!
For one, fitness magazines are created for one reason - to make money! They are out to sell magazines, NOT to help you build muscle mass. Their tips and suggestions therefore are designed to be easy so you feel like everything they say is within your reach with minimal effort. Let me be the first to tell you, that a properly designed and effective muscle gaining program is not easy! It takes time and effort, and an entire lifestyle change. It is not as simple as buying a magazine!
Second, many of the models appearing in such magazines have been training their entire lives, with professionals helping them every step of the way. Do you honestly think they got the bodies they have by reading a magazine and trying a few tips? Don’t chase the dream that this is an easy process, because I promise you it is not.
In order to build muscle you need two main components - an expertly designed exercise routine, and a well planned diet. Without both of these elements, you will not succeed in your efforts to build a better body. Magazines rarely if ever go into the important role diet plays into your success. Diet is as important, if not MORE important than exercises and workout routines.
In order to gain mass in a safe, effective way, you need an entire program and lifestyle change specifically designed to get you where you want to be. No magazine article will ever get you there, because it is too hard and they would never sell any issues!
You need to select the right muscle building program for your needs. My personal favorite is called “The Truth About Building Muscle” and includes all the major aspects of a well designed mass building program. There are dozens of other programs out there, however, so please choose the one that’s right for you!
Michael Voizard is a lifetime fitness student and author. His most recommended mass building program truth-about-building-muscle.com The Truth About Building Muscle is now available online. For more information please see
