I know, this is easier said then done. If you must use a public washroom make sure you follow these simple steps.
1.) Never flush while seated - The splashing while flushing can make bacteria airborne and airborne bacteria can land anywhere. Make sure you stand up before flushing.
2.) Make sure you wipe the seat and then place toilet paper on it. Wiping can eliminate and wet spots that would have passed through the paper seat.
3.) Always lean to the side, placing on buttock on the seat. Don’t hover, it can make you tense your muscle and not allow you to completely empty.

Weight Loss Surgery FAQ
Overweight men and women wanting to lose a large amount of weight, frequently consider weight loss surgery. Although weight loss surgery can be a productive method of losing weight, it ’s always a serious decision to make. There is a history of numerous stories about weight loss surgery patients who had a hard time recovering from the procedure. These days, there is newer technology that makes these procedures better, easier and safer. Howevern there are still a lot of people who keep questions about weight loss surgery.
If you are really considering this procedure, it is important that you talk to your doctor and discuss what kind of surgery is correct for you. Also, make sure that all questions are asked before you decide on the surgery. There are different types of weight loss surgeries and each one has is particular set of risks and complications. Here we collected some of the most asked questions people have concerning weight loss surgery.
How much weight will I lose after the surgery? This depends of course on which surgery you have and how closely you follow the guidelines. Most patients will lose two to three pounds every week for the first year, and even one pound a week is more reasonable. After the first year, weight loss will drop gradually and the amount of lost pounds will be regular. Most patients can expect to lose approximately 36 percent of their surplus body weight in the first year following surgery.
How long will it take to heal from this type of surgery? This also depends on which procedure of weight loss surgery you have. Laparoscopic patients recover much quicker than those who have an open surgery. Most patients remain in the hospital for at least 24 hours after surgery. Most patients need one to six weeks to carry on their daily activities and practise.
Will I be sick afterwards? All weight loss surgeries have the same goal: to limit nourishment intake. While you are getting used to the fewer calories this can lead to dizziness and headaches. For those who often feel bad after eating, this can mean that the food is not being chewed well or long enough, or that the wrong foods are being eaten. It is important to control the nausea because vomiting can conduct to nasty problems.
Will I need plastic surgery for the extra skin after losing a lot of weight? There are some patients who choose to have plastic surgery after weight loss surgery. If a patient has been overweight for a long time, the skin is very stretched and will generally not mold itself into place. Anyway, plastic surgery is not a concern until at least one year following the original surgery.
Is getting pregnant possible after the surgery? Yes, it is possible with some weight loss surgeries, but it ’s usually recommended that you wait at least a year to eighteen months following surgery before gettng pregnant. With the Lap-Band, the band can be loosened during pregnancy to adjust the increased need for more nutrition and calories.
Will I suffer from constipation? Some patients do because there is less fiber in the food. This is commonly experienced and if it becomes a problem, your doctor can advise a mild laxative.
Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health care provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition and prior to starting any new treatment. Nothing contained in this article is intended to be used for medical diagnosis or treatment.

ENS Means Significant Nasal Problems
If you’ve ever had a sinus operation or are thinking about having one, you need to be aware of one of the most tragic of nasal problems, ENS.
ENS stands for Empty Nose Syndrome. This condition causes nasal problems in some people that can be devastating. The condition is tragic because it is doctor induced. That is, when nasal turbinates are extracted in whole or in part during sinus surgery, the condition can subsequently occur, sometimes taking 5 or 6 years to manifest itself.
Turbinates can swell and cause blockages in nasal cavities, leading to sinus infections. Thus, cutting out turbinate tissue during sinus surgery used to be a common practice. It is now better understood that these turbinates are part of a system that regulates the flow of air through the nose and into the lungs. The turbinates also filter air going into the lungs, and they add humidity such that the respiratory system does not dry out. Furthermore, turbinate tissue produces mucous and contains cilia, which are vital for the proper functioning of the nasal system. Cilia can be permanently damaged, and if that occurs the nasal system will simply break down, and you are bound to feel miserable
Dr. Eugene Kern of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota coined the term Empty Nose Syndrome in the 1990’s after he and his colleagues observed that people who had turbinates or turbinate tissue removed during sinus surgery were still complaining about having stuffiness, sinusitis and other nasal problems, even though their nasal passages were very open, since their turbinates had been removed. These patients also experienced other symptoms, including shortness of breath, nasal dryness and caking, pain in the face, as well as depression and anxiety and a loss of the ability to concentrate. Dr. Kern studied the cases of over two hundred people with this condition and came up with the term “Empty Nose Syndrome” now commonly referred to as ENS. Dr Kern even treated two people who were so miserable with this condition that they committed suicide! He has been counseling surgeons to be conservative in their surgeries, but since the concepts are still relatively new, not every ENT is convinced, and many will still extract turbinates and turbinate tissue. The bottom line is this: don’t let your surgeon cut out your turbinates or their tissue if you are going to have sinus surgery. Another tragic aspect of the problem is that once the tissue is removed it cannot grow back, and techniques currently do not exist for successful transplants of other tissue.
One can learn more details about this condition by going to the web site of the ENS Association. Just do a search for “empty nose syndrome” and you’ll easily find the site. It features a forum in which people share their experiences, and just reading through some of the comments by people who are suffering from ENS nasal problems should be enough to make you extremely cautious if you are contemplating surgery.
One thing to keep in mind is that oftentimes people do not start experiencing ENS symptoms until 5 or 6 years after they have had surgery, as mentioned above. Essentially it can take that long for the remaining cilia left after the surgery to succumb to being overloaded and to fail. I personally had my second sinus surgery about six years ago, and I am watching out for ENS symptoms which fortunately are not an issue in my case thus far.
Anyone who has had sinus surgery or is contemplating it is strongly urged to go to the ENS web site. Scroll down the home page, and you will find a button where you can listen to Dr. Kern presenting a lecture to other surgeons. His talk is about a half hour in length, and it is particularly poignant when he describes the two patients he treated who committed suicide. It quickly becomes clear that this condition is a very serious one. You will learn a lot by listening to this tape and by studying the other information on the site. In fact anyone who suffers from sinusitis or other nasal problems should be aware of ENS in case they are ever confronted with sinus surgery.

Cholesterol and Garlic
This article comes from a personal experience that I think might be worth sharing.
Several years ago, I went for a thorough check-up at our local hospital, and part of the associated blood work was a cholesterol level check – something I had never had before.
When I returned for the reports, everything was fine. But one thing stood out. My doctor commented that my HDL / LDL levels were perfect – picture book, in fact. She seemed surprised, and so was I. Though I live as healthily as possible, and was certainly getting plenty of exercise at the time, it surprised me to have such a noteworthy report. I concluded that I might be fortunate in having a good HDL / LDL balance genetically.
You probably know that the balance of these two lipoproteins – high-density lipoprotein and low-density lipoprotein – is an indication of coronary health. Lipoproteins are formed in the liver by the binding of fats to proteins, to enable cholesterol to be carried in the bloodstream, which is water-based.
When too much low-density lipoprotein circulates in the blood, it allows cholesterol to build up as plaque on the arteries that feed the heart and brain, and the individual is at risk of coronary heart disease or a stroke. On the other hand, higher levels of high-density lipoprotein in the blood lower the risk of coronary heart disease, possibly by carrying cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver, where it is processed for excretion from the body.
The more LDL-cholesterol you have in your blood, the greater your risk of heart disease. The higher your level of HDL-cholesterol, the better your prognosis is.
Some time later, I was researching garlic and had bought “Garlic for Health” by Benjamin Lau, MD, PhD, (1988 ISBN 0-941524-32-9), which deals specifically with research on aged garlic. One of the areas he researched was the effect of aged garlic on regulating lipid metabolism. Perhaps the best way to make my point is by a brief quote from his text:
“In this part of the study, we differentiated between low-density lipoproteins, considered to be detrimental to health, and high-density lipoprotein, known to protect against heart-attack and stroke. Those taking garlic experienced an initial rise in the level of LDL and VLDL. The initial rise was followed by a significant drop beginning in the third month. As the study progressed, subjects experienced an increase in HDL (high-density lipoprotein) (see Figure 6). In other words, garlic can reduce the levels of “bad” cholesterol while increasing the levels of “good” cholesterol.” (Pp. 13-14).
Reading this gave me one of those “light-bulb” moments, because I regularly take aged garlic capsules, and was certainly taking them at the time I had the cholesterol level check. I was already a fan of aged garlic, for its antibacterial and antifungal effects – now it appeared there was another very good reason to take it in one’s diet.
For anyone trying to achieve a good HDL / LDL balance, exercise, weight-reduction and stopping smoking are the prescribed methods. All of these are vital to good health and should be implemented. But it’s nice to know you can support your dietary and exercise measures by taking an herb that was initially proved to work in at least 65% of cases.
What about the other 35%? This is where it gets interesting. I quote Dr Lau again:
“Reviewing their dietary history, we discovered that they were heavy meat-eaters with diets consisting regularly of steak, pastries, and ice-cream, particularly during the evening meals. When we incorporated dietary modification for these individuals, lowering of lipids was then observed in those who were able to follow the recommended dietary changes. Our conclusion is that garlic should be used together with a good diet to achieve the best result.” (Pp. 15-16).
Remember: In these tests, Dr Lau reported an initial “modest rise in cholesterol and triglycerides” in the first 2 months of the test as the aged garlic moved lipid deposits from the tissues into the blood. Normal serum lipid values were reached by 6 months. Be aware that this temporary rise in blood lipids is to be expected if you have high LDL levels and are considering using aged garlic.
Note: The above information is offered not as a prescription or in place of proper medical care, but as a report on research findings which may be of interest. In cases of sickness, the attention and care of a nutritionally aware health professional are essential.

Diet Myths – Do You Believe These 3 Myths? If So Weight Gain And Illness Could Follow!
In our pursuit of a quick fix to weight loss several diet myths have grown up which have no basis in fact in helping you lose weight
Not only will the 3 common diet myths below not help you lose weight quickly, they can actually make you ill.
So, here are three common diet myths to avoid.
1.Skip meals
A very common diet myth which is extremely unhealthy and could actually see you gain weigh is skipping meals. Fact is, you should eat 5 meals a day.
By eating frequently you achieve the following:
Eating frequently prevents hunger pangs insulin spikes and curbs over eating.
Eating frequently keeps your metabolism working all the time so you burn calories more efficiently.
Food is also absorbed more efficiently and quickly when we eat this way.
The only warning here is be sensible about the size of portions you consume.
2. Cut carbohydrates
This is definitely not a good idea!
Carbohydrates are the primary source of fuel for the body and many vital organs, including the brain, central nervous system, kidneys and heart rely on them.
If the body is starved of carbohydrate, it breaks down muscle and other tissue to produce glucose.
This causes a build-up of waste products called ‘ketones’.
Known as ‘ketosis’ this disease is common in people who are undernourished, suffering from anorexia nervosa or who have insulin-dependent diabetes.
Ketones make the blood acidic, in severe cases Ketosis can be fatal, particularly for pregnant women, unborn babies, and for those who have diabetes. The heart may also not be able to function properly as ketone bodies are its main source of fuel
Now let’s look at another myth that cutting carbohydrates can help you lose weight.
Carbohydrates and weight control
Now let’s look at another myth that cutting carbohydrates can help you lose weight.
Weight gain is caused by consuming too many calories, whether they are from carbohydrate, protein or fat.
A diet high in good carbohydrates such fruits and vegetables, will result in the greatest chance of weight loss if balanced with fat and protein in recommended amounts.
A diet containing good carbohydrates will also assist in combating hunger pangs as they are slowly realized into our bodies and are loaded with nutrients.
Whole grains, fruit and vegetables are great carbohydrate sources and also excellent sources of many other vitamins and minerals, as are many dairy products.
When eating carbohydrates eat “naturally” with no refining or processing,
It is the processing that is bad, not carbohydrates themselves.
2.Fat is bad for you and can help you put on weight
Neither of the above statements are true.
Fats are part of the natural food chain of humans and we all need a certain amount of fats to healthy, lack of fat can also cause serious health issues.
Eat a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet.” We here it often but it is misunderstood.
The total amount of fat in the diet, whether high or low, isn’t directly linked to disease.
Bad fats increase the risk of certain diseases and good fats lower the risk. So all you need to do is to make sure you eat the right fats.
Oily fish as an example contains fat but is good for you, in that it contains essential fatty acids which can actually help your body burn fat more efficiently and protect against disease.
Cholesterol the facts
A lot of the anti fat diets link it to cholesterol build up but again this is another diet myth that is not true
Dietary cholesterol is not bad on its own the key with cholesterol is the amount in the bloodstream.
High blood cholesterol levels increase the risk for heart disease, but the average person makes about 75% of blood cholesterol in their liver; only 25% is absorbed from food eaten.
The biggest influence on blood cholesterol level and the risk of illness is the mix of fats in the diet.
Saturated and unsaturated fats
Saturated fats raise cholesterol levels and risk of heart disease.
They are found mostly in animal sources such as fatty meats, whole fat dairy products, lard etc
unsaturated fats on the other hand lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease.
These fats are good and come primarily from vegetable oils. Examples of healthy fats would be: olive, Canola, and soy oils.
While these fats include the essential fatty acids, they are high in calories and should not be eaten to excess.
The best sources of unsaturated fats are those found in whole foods such as nuts, seeds, olives, and avocados. These foods are rich in unsaturated fats and also contribute vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber.
The diet myth of fats is probably the most common diet myth but has no basis in fact and if it were so bad why is it part of the natural food chain?
Finally …
Don’t look for quick fix diets and don’t believe the diet myths above you will not only not lose weight quickly, but you may also make yourself ill.

Healthier Living and Organic Farming
A large part of organic agriculture involves the health of the soil and the ecosystems in which crops and livestock are raised. Foods certified as organic must be produced using growing methods that minimize soil erosion and that maintain or enhance the fertility of the soil. All the chemicals in the world can’t nourish a garden as well as healthy organic compost.
Look for natural and organic alternatives to chemical fertilizers, such as the use of compost. Natural fertilizers, compost and organic materials encourage native earthworms. The soil’s organic matter contributes to good soil structure, and water-holding capacity. Improve the soil with organic matter and fertilizers to develop the best soil for growing seeds and plants.
The availability of nutrients from organic fertilizers depends on their breakdown by soil organisms, which in turn depends on weather and soil conditions. Their nutrients are not available to plants until the organic matter has decomposed. In reality, you can’t have a good organic garden without a good composter.
The use of disease resistance must be emphasized within an organic program. In current organic production systems, growers are not permitted to use conventional synthetic organic fungicides in their disease management program. The national organic program rules prohibit the use of conventional pesticides, petroleum, or sewage-sludge-based fertilizers, bioengineering or ionizing radiation and synthetic substances. But, there are several general things any organic gardener can do to beat those pests naturally.
Many believe that organic foods contain a higher level of nutrient minerals and much lower levels of heavy metals. As a result, the industry has understandably grown from experimental garden plots to large farms with surplus products sold under special organic labels.
Today, organic foods are available at supermarkets and farmer’s markets, in restaurants and through mail-order suppliers, even here on the web.
Example - organic-items.com organic-items.com
Buying organic will insure that the food products you consume contain no genetically modified organisms, and are free from irradiation.
Purchasing locally grown, organically produced fruits, vegetables and meat assures you of having the very best food available for your family’s table. Buying hemp, organic cotton and recycled products like home furnishings, baby clothes, and natural beauty products aid conservation of natural resources. Growing organically takes more time, requires more knowledge and skill, and, for now, costs more.

Choosing a Fitness Center that is Right for You
So you have finally made the commitment to get in better shape and part of your plan is joining a fitness center? Great! Now, how do you go about choosing the right one for you? There are many factors that you should consider. After all, the membership won’t help you reach your fitness or weight loss goal if you don’t actually use it. Before signing a contract or paying the membership fee, be sure that you consider such factors as location, quality of equipment, activities offered, hours of operation, cost and availability of childcare. All of these can have a significant effect on how much you end up using and enjoying your membership.
As with any other major purchase, you should comparison shop by visiting all the fitness centers that are within the geographical region that you are considering. Before visiting, make a list of things that are important to you such as child care or aerobics classes so that you don’t forget to ask about those things. Call each center and ask if they give free tours for prospective members and tell them you’d like to make an appointment. Try to schedule your visit during the time of day that you will most likely be working out so that you can see how busy it will be during that time.
Some things you should look for while visiting a prospective fitness center are the knowledge of the staff and how helpful and friendly they are, the condition as well as the variety of the equipment and how clean and well maintained does it appear to be. Also, how well do you fit in with the other members and is that something that concerns you? For example if you are just looking to lose a few pounds and get in a little better shape but the majority of the clientele are serious body builders, will you feel out of place? Is the general atmosphere relaxed? What type of music if any do they play and do you like it? Do they offer televisions and earphones? All of these factors which may not seem that important could end up having a big effect on how much you enjoy and use your membership. If you are not sure if the gym is for you, ask if they offer a free trail membership. Many fitness centers will give you a week’s pass so you can see if you want to join.
If you like group activities then be sure to ask about things like the availability of group aerobics, spinning or other types of classes. Some gyms offer tanning, personal training and even massage as extra services available on location although there is usually an additional fee for those. If you are interested in any of those types of extra services, be sure to inquire about them and find out the costs.
If you are a parent and will need childcare, that is another important factor in deciding on a gym. Be sure to ask if they provide child care as part of your membership fee and what hours it is available. Ask to see the childcare area and find out the qualifications of the people who will be caring for your children. Meet them and be sure you would be comfortable leaving your child in their care.
Location and the hours the gym is open are two more consideration. If the gym is close to your home or located on your way home from work, you will be more likely to go. Make sure they are open at the time that you want to work out. Some gyms are open 24 hours and issue swipe cards for members to be able to get in at any time. Others are open only certain hours.
A gym or fitness centre membership can be costly and in some cases means a 2 year contract, so like any other investment of money, be sure that you thoroughly investigate what you will be getting for your investment. You do not want to end up paying for something that you don’t use.

Are Your Nutrition Habits Robbing You from the Body You Desire?
What if by making a few small changes in your nutrition and eating habits you could add up to a 50% gain in muscle mass and loose up to 18% extra fat.
Well you could be robbing yourself of these gains just by not eating correctly and at the right times. You see by eating at the right time you can catapult your body into a fat burning anabolic state which will not only help you gain more muscle but also loose more fat at the same time.
You will be surprised at how easy it is to make a few simple changes in your eating habits and times and the gains that you will get from these very small changes.
In a recent study in the U.K it has been shown that eating irregular meals promotes fat gain. It all comes back to our body’s “will to survive” mechanism. When you skip or prolong a meal your body will automatically go into saviour mode and start storing extra fat to be used at a later date. Consequently your next meal also stores a lot of extra fat.
By eating smaller meals more frequently you can not only counter this effect but also put your body into an anabolic state, which will also increase your base metabolic rate. In plain English this leads to higher fat loss and more muscle gain.
A haphazard supplement program coupled with a haphazard diet will make building muscle and loosing fat a next to impossible task no matter how you train
Why would anyone put in all that effort in their training and not back it up by proper nutrition and eating habits? Lack of knowledge would be the most likely answer.
Ideally you should be eating 5 or 6 smaller meals a day that are low in fat, with high protein and medium carbohydrate.
Here is an example of my Meal plan each day
Meal 1: 6AM
1 packet of Ny-Tro PRO-40 mixed with 16 ounces of skim milk and 1 serving of Micronized Creatine
Meal 2: 9AM
2 servings VP2 Whey Isolate mixed in 10 ounces of skim milk
1 large apple
Meal 3: 12PM
2 grilled chicken breasts
1 Serving Rice
1 cup of low-fat Yogurt
1 serving VP2 Whey Isolate in 8 ounces skim milk.
Meal 4: 3PM
1 packet Ny-Tro PRO-40 mixed with 16 ounces of skim milk and 5 to 10 grams of GL3 L-Glutamine
1 large banana
Pre-Workout
2 Dymetadrine Xtreme
1 VyoPro Protein Bar
Meal 5: 6PM (Post-workout)
2 servings VP2 Whey Isolate combined with 1 serving Creatine HSC mixed in cold water. (This is an important meal and is designed for an insulin spike at just the right time to increase creatine and amino acid uptake by the muscle cells.)
Meal 6: 7PM
8 to 10 ounces of lean round or flank steak
1 large serving of rice
1 medium baked potato
1 large green salad
Meal 7: 10PM
1 packet of Ny-Tro PRO-40 mixed with 9 ounces of skim milk
1 large banana
3 to 5 grams of GL3 L-Glutamine
(Mix the Ny-Tro PRO-40 and GL3 in a large bowl into a smooth pudding. Slice the banana on top and eat. It’s a dessert.)
I take my meal plans from the Max OT training program, which can be found at ast-ss.com/max-ot/max-ot_intro.asp
You do not need to supplement the way I do and by just eating 5-7 smaller meals per day you will already be on your way to a healthier life with better gains from your gym workouts.

Latest Acne Scar Treatment with Microneedle Therapy
The aim of acne treatment is not just to reduce outbreaks, but the prevention of permanent scars. For adults whose acne has been quiescent for years, the scars often remain. Such permanent facial scarring, especially if prominent and deep over the cheek area, can have a major negative impact on the individual’s self confidence.
Various treatments have been used in an attempt to reduce the appearance of acne scars. Microdermabrasion is popular as it is relatively non-invasive. Multiple sessions (20-25) are needed for optimum results. The scars depth is reduced and a glow is more visible. Microdermabrasion is useful in shallow, rolling scars and has little impact on the deeper ice pick scars.
Subcision has been employed to cut the fibers under the scar tissue, in an attempted to release the scars from the underlying tissues. This is useful for ice pick scars. Further filling with a temporary or permanent dermal filler may be needed for an even skin surface.
The best treatment to date has been laser resurfacing. This destroys the skin surface. When the epithelium grows back, the skin is smooth and unscarred. However, this is a traumatic procedure with a prolonged recovery.
A new roller device with rows of tiny microneedles is now available for the treatment of acne scars. When the needles penetrate the skin surface, micro-channels form. This allows product penetration past the skin barrier. The physical minute breaks in the skin surface stimulates the skin to produce collagen naturally (Collagen Induction Therapy). New skin forms under the dead scar tissue, hence the skin naturally becomes smoother once it regenerates.
Up to three treatments, six to eight weeks apart (length of the skin growth cycle), are needed for optimal results. Depending on the device and protocol chosen, downtime can be minimal. The results are progressive. As the skin remains intact, there is no increased sensitivity to the sun. The micro-channels close within minutes, and the skin continues its normal barrier function.
This simple mechanical device produces results equivalent to laser therapy, without the prolonged recovery or expense. It is rapidly gaining popularity worldwide as a useful part of the Aesthetic Physician’s tool kit in the treatment of acne scars and general rejuvenation.
Collagen Induction Therapy is the new buzz word in anti-ageing and aesthetic therapy.
