Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Gastric Bypass Surgery

Obesity is often combined with one or more related health conditions called ”comorbid conditions.” Some of the more dangerous conditions that obesity is linked to are heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and sleep apnea.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), the absence of breathing during sleep, is a common, chronic disease associated with obesity. While obstructive sleep apnea is commonly associated with obese men, it affects a broad cross-section of the population, including overweight women and children.

OSA is a disorder that causes the cessation of airflow through the nose and mouth many times an hour during sleep, which disrupts the sleep cycle and causes loud snoring. The condition is caused by airways that collapse due to fatty deposits in the neck or airway tissues. The usual treatment is the use of a C-PAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine, which delivers oxygen during sleep.

Sleep apnea and daytime sleepiness and fatigue may be related to insulin resistance, which often accompanies obesity. Consuming alcohol can make snoring and obstructive sleep apnea worse.

Because sleep apnea disrupts the normal sleep patterns, patients with this condition may appear depressed, lethargic, and constantly fatigued. Weight loss is the best long-term treatment for fighting this condition.

Unfortunately, only a few patients with sleep-related breathing disorders succeed in maintaining their weight reduction after dieting. One study found that only 3% of patients with OSA who had a significant improvement in their sleep apnea symptoms after dieting were able to maintain their weight loss after 5 years. In fact, many patients regained all the weight they lost and added more.

Because dietary control has not been successful for long-term treatment of OSA, many doctors are referring their patients for gastric bypass procedures. Gastric bypass and gastric lap-band surgeries can cure or control many of the serious diseases that accompany morbid obesity, and many patients with sleep apnea have received relief following their surgery. Most gastric bypass patients do not regain their weight, as dieters often do, so the long-term results tend to be more promising for those suffering from OSA.

Because sleep apnea is such a common condition among obese patients of all ages and genders, many obesity clinics require a sleep study for all patients during the workup for bariatric surgery. If the condition is found to be present, patients will be asked to be treated with a C-PAP machine for several months prior to surgery.

Post-gastric bypass patients will be closely monitored if they continue to use the C-PAP machine, because the increased airway pressure could risk the integrity of the surgical site. The new smaller stomach pouch could fill with air at high pressure, causing complications. Some obesity centers will restrict the use of the machine after surgery for this reason. Once the patient has lost weight, the symptoms of sleep apnea will usually go away, and further treatment for the disorder is no longer needed.

Kick the Flu Out Without Taking Any Medicine and Tamiflu

Every winter, there are many reasons to worry about the flu. This year we are doing the same thing, but to an even greater extent. Scientists and physicians have made many announcements, issued many reports, and given many speeches regarding the terrible bird flu. Everyone is concerned as since we repeatedly read and hear these reports in newspapers and magazines, and on the internet, radio and television.

Why are we scared? Living in this high technology world, what problem is there that we cannot solve? If you ask this question to a scientist at this time, the answer you will receive is that the bird flu is difficult to handle right now!

Why is so hard? Since the flu virus is so tricky and the mutation is so complicated, it is difficult to find the right bacterin. Maybe you don’t know what I am talking about. Let me give you an example and you will understand immediately. Computer anti-virus program needs to updated in order to provide good protection. Programmers are able to create updated anti-virus software in a very short time because they have the knowledge to quickly find a solution. The case of flu virus case is similar, but a hundred times harder.

The flu does not matter to people if we have the right bacterin. Because we do not have the precise new bacterin ready for immediate use, scientists continue to warning people to pay close attention to the virus mutation. The fact that we have a flu shot today doesn’t mean we are protected from a new flu virus from mutation tomorrow. We must understand this fact. Many people still believe “one flu shot will do it all” and it is a mistake for people to lose sight of the risk of a new virus!

There are a few things we really must consider in order to have a full view of the menace of flu. How fast can flu mutation be seen: a minute, a week, or a month? Who controls the flu mutation? What is the best way to protect yourself if the current bacterin is not effective against tomorrow’s new flu virus? If we really care about our resistance to flu, we must give deep thought to those questions!

We have to prepare everything enough to face the flu seriously. At least, we have to ask ourselves “what’s flu exactly?” to make sure that we know it well! Moreover, Is there the other option of protecting ourselves? Think about it.

Teddy Sun, a senior student of universe. Thirty years ago, he had a chance to start studying the universe. Teddy likes to share his view with people all the time. There is a new eBook called “Kick The Flu Out” that has just been released on the market. This eBook is fascinating! Visit kickthefluout.com kickthefluout.com to get more details!

Not All Hairsprays Are Created Equal

Girls, ladies and women, we have all been there: you have a big night you’ve been looking forward to for ages! You have everything planned from your outfit to your shoes and what color nail-polish you are going to wear. It is the day of the event and you decide to do some last minute retail therapy and buy yourself some new hair spray. You go to the most prestigious salon in town and have a chat to the hairdresser, who tells you this new amazing hairspray is the best thing since sliced bread, and you leave the salon feeling lucky to have come across this great technology right when you needed it.

You begin your preparation ritual for the evening, having an extra long bath, treating your hair, shaving, exfoliating, and applying a mask to your face. Then you get dressed, perfect your make-up in a way that even Revlon would have been impressed with, and now for your hair! When you dry and style it, it looks great, then you apply your new advanced generation hairspray – just a little all over like the professional advised, and yes, you look hot!

A quick once over in the mirror, shoes on and you are out the door in a record two and a half hours from when you started. You’re driving to your friends house to pick her up and you catch a glimpse of your hair in the rearview-mirror. Surely those dull drooping strings aren’t part of your design! You rush to your friend’s door, barely say hello, then race to her mirror.

Aargh! What happened to the full bodied shiny style you saw only fifteen minutes ago? Why does your hair look a shade darker than usual and why are those bits all stuck together? You grab a comb and try to perk it up, but nothing improves. You borrow hairspray from your friend but the two combined seems to form some sort of super glue effect and it’s just getting worse. You contemplate whether you have time to shower and wash it again, but you know you don’t.

Although your hair probably doesn’t look anywhere near as bad as you think it does, if you’re not 100% happy with it, you won’t feel confident and happy with yourself. Anyway, you head out for your function feeling disappointed and silly for trying something new on a night out.

One of the most important rules of hairspray use is always know your product before you rely on it.

There are so many different hairsprays on the market, and so many unique types of hair, you may have to trial many before you find one that is your perfect match. Not all hairsprays are created equal, and the days of the shiny, crystallized, stiff looks for everyone are in the past. Using hairspray doesn’t mean you have to have a unmovable mass on you head, and if you prefer a natural look it should be yours.

The Science Of Hairspray

Hairspray is a liquid which you spray on your hair that is sticky and sets quickly. It is basically a liquid plastic which joins to make a coating, then the liquid evaporates and the film that remains dries. Over time, the chemistry involved in creating hair spray recipes has become so complex and involved it is an art form of it’s own. There are so many qualities to be considered such as whether it’s flexible, and if it’s strong hold, extra strong, maximum, or ultra strong. Does it smell like apples or more like fly spray? What environment is it designed for? And what hair type is it meant to be used on? Finding all the qualities you want, then finding the brand to suit your hair is the challenge, but the odds are in your favor and once you do find it, you will probably be loyal for life.

The reason we use hairspray is to hold our hair in position once we style it. Some only need a little bit of help to keep their hair in place, and others who have more stubborn hair need maximum hold.

A flexible hair spray is one that is light to medium strength and will let your hair still move around naturally while keeping the style.

Strong, extra strength or firm should keep your hair still while you’re active or in bad weather or if you need to keep a sophisticated hairstyle in place.

The hair sprays that have the strongest hold usually dry very quickly and really do freeze your hair in place through difficult conditions. They will normally be called maximum strength, ultra strength or freeze.

Purchasing Hair Spray That Will Work For You

Once you have decided how strong you want your hairspray to be, there are other properties to take into account. There is a wide range of scents, which are usually brand specific, and you don’t want one that you find unpleasant or even worse that irritates you. You can purchase unscented varieties, or almost any flower or fruit you can think of. Try to match it to your shampoo to get the most out of the fragrance you choose. Also, beware of cheap and nasty hairsprays that can smell like fly spray. You may think the smell wears off in a few minutes but other people can notice it.

Depending on your hairstyle, you may need to spray a continuous light weight film over your entire hair, or perhaps you prefer to spurt it in burst here and there as you go along. This will determine whether you need a pump spray that is non-aerosol or an aerosol, and both are good for their own purposes. An example would be if you to try to use a pump on a fine full-bodied hairstyle, the weight and moisture could destroy your hard work.

In today’s climate, you might want to consider a hairspray that has some protective characteristics such as UV filtering, moisturizing or even color protection if your hair is dyed. You can buy some hairsprays that are designed specifically for particular hair types like frizzy, curly, damaged or fine. If you have trouble with your hair being flat try the lighter “volumizing” variety which is made to lift, add volume and give shine to lifeless hair. Nowadays there are some new formulas that claim to not be sticky and have no shine, if that s something you may prefer. And of course there is the colored variety which is also available with glitter, and both are a novelty product for most people.

It can be a good idea to have a few hairsprays on hand to suit different styles and conditions. If you are playing tennis and wearing a visor out in the sun you may want a maximum hold with UV sun protection, whereas if your hair is up in a bun and you just want to curl your wisps up a little, then a non aerosol, more flexible spray should be your choice.

How To Use the Hair Spray You Choose

In most cases, you should use your hair spray on dry hair. The idea is the use it as the last step in your styling procedure and let the film set and stay in place. If you brush it, wet it, or go out in terrible whether, the coating on your hair will break up and become ineffective. If you do use hairspray every day, you should be sure to wash your hair with a good clarifying shampoo regularly to avoid build-up which can cause dullness and cuticle damage.

To prevent disasters occurring at times when you need to rely on your hair spray the most, you should spend some time experimenting with different varieties. There are so many brands surviving on the market for a reason, and that is because we all have unique and individual needs. A punky Mohawk hairstyle is going to require a completely different hair spray to a naturally curly and long style. Find the spray that you like the smell of and has a good balance of hold for your style and how it feels. This way your hair should be at it’s best every time.

The Alexander Technique - Moving Through Life With Greater Ease

The Alexander Technique is a profound method of releasing unwanted muscular tension throughout the body that many of us have accumulated over the years. This excessive muscular tension often starts in childhood and, if left unchecked, can give rise later in life to a whole range of common ailments such as arthritis, neck and back pain, migraine, hypertension, sciatica, insomnia and even depression. Vast amounts of money are being spent on the treatment of these illnesses, yet the number of patients carries on increasing. By learning the Alexander Technique, however, many people could be helped to understand the causes of their problems and, through the Technique, be taught how they can help themselves, so that their aches and pains would diminish or are avoided altogether.

The Technique was devised over a hundred years ago by Frederick Alexander - an Australian actor who kept on loosing his voice while performing. Alexander was determined to find a solution to his curious problem and this took him on a journey of self-discovery that, not only gave him the solution to his voice problem, but he was also able to cure himself of asthma of which he had suffered from birth. It has been claimed that Alexander’s research was one of the greatest discoveries of the twentieth century.

The Alexander Technique can help us to become more aware of balance, posture and co-ordination while performing everyday actions. As children, our posture and ease of movement are a joy to watch, but as we start to tense our muscles in reaction to many of life’s worries and concerns, our posture deteriorates into what can often borders on deformity. Yet this is not the case with people outside the western civilisation who retain their natural upright posture throughout most of their lives

We have a series of reflexes throughout the body that support us against the force of gravity and naturally co-ordinate our movements. Unfortunately because of the way we use our body many of us interfere with these natural reflexes to such an extent that many adults often hold four or five times more tension in their bodies than is really necessary. In fact, without realising it, many of us make life much harder for ourselves than it really needs to be. Our shoulders become permanently hunched, our necks become stiffer and stiffer, and we sit either slumped or holding ourselves in a very rigid. It may not be until years later that we will start to suffer from aches and pains or restricted movement. The reasons for many of these problems can be found when we consider our posture and the way we use our body while performing even the simplest of tasks: pain is simply the body’s warning system trying to tell us that something is going wrong. The Alexander Technique can show you the underlying cause of your problem, enabling you to eliminate the tension which is responsible for poor posture, tiredness, general stiffness and a variety of aches and pains – conditions that we so often mistakenly put down to the ageing process.

One of the most common examples of the consequences of poor posture or stress is back pain. Eighty per cent of all people living in our western civilisation will suffer from disabling lower back pain at some point in their lives. In the United States one hundred million visits are made to chiropractors and in the UK sixty million working days are lost each year because of back trouble, and these figures are doubling every ten years. Throughout the western world the statistics reveal that back pain is not confined only to the United States and the UK, but seems to be on the increase in most developed countries, yet no one seems to have any clear answers or solutions to the problem. Although vast sums of money are being spent on treatment of the pain, there is little research into why back pain is so prevalent in our society and yet comparatively rare in some under-developed countries. An increasing number of doctors, back specialists and orthopaedic surgeons are now advising people to try the Alexander Technique as they can see beneficial results when nothing else has helped. Many people carry on for years with unnecessary pain, not realising that anything can be done for them. We do, however, need to face up to the fact that we have to take responsibility for our ailments and not expect other people to have all the answers.

The Alexander Technique is usually taught on a one-to-one basis and the teacher will help you to be aware and let go of muscle tension that is at the root of your problem. This will be done with verbal instructions and with help from his, or her, hands. There is no manipulation and no need to remove any clothing. You will also be taught new ways of sitting, standing and walking that will put less pressure on the joints and muscles. By learn new ways of moving while performing everyday tasks which cause far less strain on the body, you will be putting far less strain on your body thus making it work more efficiently. In fact, many people who practice the Technique experience a general feeling of lightness throughout their bodies and even describe the sensation as ‘walking on air’ or moving with no effort. Since our physical state directly affects our mental and emotional well-being, people often say that they feel much calmer and happier even after just a few Alexander lessons, often resulting in less domestic tension and a greater ability to cope with life in general. Many people say that the Technique has not only helped them to be free from pain, but they say that they look and feel 10 years younger - something I am sure everyone would like to achieve!

Richard Brennan is the author of several books on the Alexander Technique: he is also the director of the Alexander teacher training college, Ireland. He is the Irish national contact for Alexander Technique International (ATI) and co-founder of the Irish Society of Alexander Technique Teachers. Discover The Source Of Health, It’s Free

Wallace Wattles is the author of The Science of Being Well. He defines Health as follows: The perfectly natural performance of function constitutes health, and the perfectly natural performance of function results from the natural action of the Principle of Life.

There is a Principle of Life in the universe, and it is the One Living Substance from which all things are made. This Living Substance permeates, penetrates, and fills the interspaces of the universe. It is in and through all things. All life comes from it - its life is all the life there is.

A human being is a form of this Living Substance, and has within him a Source of Health, which, when in full constructive activity, causes all the voluntary functions of his life to be perfectly performed. It is the Source of Health in a person which really works all healing, no matter what “system” or “remedy” is employed.

I proceed now to prove this last statement. We all know that cures are wrought by all the different, and often opposite, methods employed in the various branches of the healing art. The medical doctor, who gives a strong dose of a counter-poison, cures his patient. And the homeopath, who gives a diminutive dose of the poison most similar to that of the disease, also cures it. If a medical doctor ever cured any given disease, it is certain that homeopathy never cured that disease. And if homeopathy ever cured an ailment, medicine could not possibly cure that ailment.

The two systems are radically opposite in theory and practice, and yet both “cure” most diseases. And even the remedies used by physicians in any one school are not the same.

The Source of Health thus defines by Wallace Wattles is the same Source present in spontaneous healing, when a cancer tumor shrinks or disappears without the intervention of surgery, chemotherapy or radiation. And it is also the Source that makes the patient heal, whether he takes a pill, a grapefruit diet or lies in bed for a week. The healing occurs within the patient, as it proven by the Placebo effect. A placebo is the name given in the trial of a new drug, when a control group gets the new drug, which the other group gets a sugar pill, and the results are compared. It has been shown that often the sugar pill will have as much effect as the potent drug. How is that possible? Because the patient believes in the cure.

There are so many secrets to Health that we only now start to understand. Traditional medicine does not have the funds to finance research in this area, as it is subsidized by the pharmaceutical industry. However, this healing mechanism is present in all of us. I have put together for your education a Home Study Course based on Wallace Wattles The Science of Being Well. Visit www.thescienceofbeingwell.biz . There, you will be introduced to the secrets of healing that can put you back on the road to health today.

These principles of health are eternal, but our tendency to rely on a quick fix and a pill from the doctor has obscured our own inner healing power. The Home Study Course opens the door for you to health and healing today. You owe this to yourself and your family to listen to it today!!!

Protein - The Denominator Customary to All Diets

The Human Body is in a constant flux with the environment. Matter and molecules flow in and out, casting themselves into its complexities. Although the body lends them structure, it is the intake—the diet—that decides its physique. To control what goes in a diet is to choose what stays inside. Dietary decisions reflect an awareness of metabolism and the nutrients needed to modify it. There may be a host of diets purported for each activity and illness. However, the one macronutrient that is invariably required, in substantial amounts irrespective of the physiological state, is protein.

Proteins hold this special place in every diet for a variety of reasons. They connect the DNA to the rest of the cell and modulate all cellular functions and responses. They are the scaffolds of the human body that struts a billion cells. Proteins are also the workers that shuffle around the body relaying messages, carrying out repairs and digestion. Oxygen from the lungs and many nutrients from the gut are protein packed and delivered to their destination. The motors in the muscles and the antibodies in the immune system are all proteins. If genes code life in a helix of DNA, then proteins are life in its decoded form. Their pervasiveness makes them indispensable and, protein synthesis a priority in metabolism.

Add to this myriad of functions the astronomical turnover rate of proteins, and continuous protein synthesis becomes vital. Every protein has a short life span and is soon broken down into its constituent amino acids. New proteins are required to take their place. The skin itself is renewed every seven days. Then there are proteins that get used up, damaged or excreted, and need to be produced again. Protein synthesis goes on at a frantic pace even in normal people. Then there are periods of rapid growth, like athletes in training, teenagers, convalescent patients, babies, pregnant or lactating mothers, where protein synthesis reaches an all time high. Proteins are broken down for other reasons as well. In times of stress, illness or starvation, the body just cannot find enough sources of energy. In such circumstances, proteins are taken apart into their constituent amino acids and are used as fuel. Therefore, in all physiological states, cells are constantly at work, churning out new proteins.

To maintain this obligatory and intense rate of protein synthesis, the body needs a dedicated supply of amino acids. Unfortunately, unlike carbohydrates and fats that are stockpiled, the human body has no arrangement to store extra amino acids. The persistent demand for proteins and amino acids has to be met anew every day and from three possible sources: cellular production, the diet or breakdown of other body proteins. Of these, cellular production would be most convenient. If the cell could produce all the required amino acids, there would be no compulsion to provide them in the diet. However, there are amino acids that just cannot be produced in the body. These ‘essential amino acids’ have to come from the diet.

Proteins, from the diet or supplements, are the best alternative. The supply of all amino acids can be ensured and in sufficient amounts. Cellular metabolism is relieved of the obligation to produce amino acids except for making minor adjustment in the supply chain. Protein synthesis can go on uninterrupted. Unless the diet meets the perpetual demand for amino acids, other, relatively expendable, body proteins are broken down to fulfill the requirement. In effect, a dietary deficiency of proteins forces the body to feed on itself.

The need for proteins in every diet is undeniable. The average American diet provides 1.2 g/kg of protein against the recommended daily allowance of 0.8 g/kg. The question, then, is whether to add protein supplements to an existing diet? While proteins from food may seem adequate, there is no telling whether all essential amino acids are supplied, and there is little way of knowing how easily those proteins are digested and assimilated into the body. A carefully researched protein supplement like Profect, when taken regularly, would remove such uncertainties.

Apart from supplying amino acids for protein synthesis, a high protein diet based on Profect has other advantages. Studies on high-protein diets have demonstrated their ability to induce weight loss. A high-protein diet produces early satiety and decreases the total energy intake. Protein synthesis, an energy consuming process, is promoted. The energy to assimilate such a diet, calculated as the ‘Thermogenic effect of feeding’, is high. More calories are burnt, more proteins are synthesized and the lean body mass increases while the body weight goes down. Brawn is exchanged for flab.

Proteins from Profect form bioactive peptides in the gut that can enhance gut defenses. The harmful gut bacteria are killed and normal flora is allowed to colonize the intestinal lining. Profect also protects the system from free radicals, free electron molecules produced during intense activity and stress. Free radicals are known to damage cell membranes. Their role in aging, cancer and blood clotting is being intensely investigated. Profect increases the levels of Glutathione, a free radical scavenger that mops up free radicals shielding the cell from their effects. The added water-soluble vitamins and mineral in Profect prevent the loss of calcium and other micronutrients seen on high-protein diets.

Hair Removal by Waxing - Hot and Cold Waxes

Waxing is an effective method of removing large amounts of hair at one time. With hot waxing, a thin layer of heated wax is applied to the skin in the direction of the hair growth. The hair becomes embedded in the wax as it cools and hardens. The wax is then pulled off quickly in the opposite direction of the hair growth, taking the uprooted hair with it. Cold waxes work similarly. Strips precoated with wax are pressed on the skin in the direction of the hair growth and pulled off in the opposite direction. The strips come in different sizes for use on the eyebrows, upper lip, chin, and bikini area.

Waxing is a temporary method of hair removal which removes the hair at the root. New hairs do not grow back in the waxed area for three to eight weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet’. But don’t be fooled into thinking that waxing is for women only. Today’s fashion trends have men waxing their bodies for cosmetic reasons, and many athletes such as bodybuilders and swimmers have been waxing for years.

The concept of waxing to remove bodily hair can be traced all the way back to ancient Egypt where the wives of Royalty and the well-to-do looked at hair removal as a way to remain young and forever beautiful. That concept continued throughout the world with the Greeks and Turks as well.

Most waxes are comprised of some proportional mixture of paraffin or beeswax, natural oils or fats, and a specially designed resin to help the wax adhere to the skin. Some brands of wax add Vitamin E or other supplements. If you think that you might want to try waxing, the first step, whether you are a male or female, is to decide if you want to use the ‘hot’ or ‘cold’ wax technique.

The hot wax method involves heating the wax to a comfortable temperature. A thin layer of wax is spread onto the area to be treated in the direction of the hair growth. Once the wax is cooled it is quickly torn off, in the opposite direction of the hair growth, and the hair is removed with it. With the cold wax process, strips of cloth are pre-coated with wax. You apply the strips to the area to be treated, rub the strips in the direction of hair growth, and then pull the strips off quickly in the opposite direction. Although hot waxing techniques are a bit more messy than cold wax ones, many people find that the hot wax gives better results.

Post Waxing Skin Treatment

You can apply a non-perfumed moisturizer to the treated area if you want to. Moisturizers that are fortified with Vitamin B and/or Aloe vera are also good. Avoid the following activities for at least 24 hours after waxing:

- Swimming

- Using a Spa or Hot Tub

- Sunbathing

- Applying perfume, aftershave or deodorant to the treated area

Always check to make sure that the hot wax is below scalding or burning temperature before applying. People with diabetes should consult a doctor before waxing. Never wax over sunburned skin or peeling skin, lesions or infections, moles, warts, skin abrasions, rashes, or varicose veins. Never wax the eyelashes, nose or ear hairs, nipple hair, or hair which is growing directly on the genitals (bikini area is okay). Waxing is a great solution for the temporary removal of unwanted hair if you’re tough enough to stand a little pain. Some hair removal experts recommend professional waxing for the best results.

What Are The Most Important Things To Know About Losing Weight?

Losing weight or weight loss are words that continue to consume most North Americans. People are becoming more health conscious, and the advancement in the field of science that has highlighted the potential dangers of obesity and being over weight are driving more people to search for simple ways to lose weight.

The are many important things that one needs to know about losing weight which in turn helps for natural rapid weight loss. Whenever you consider a plan to lose weight consider the list below to help shed those extra pounds.

Importance of fiber
Fiber helps for natural rapid weight loss. A high fiber diet is very important if you want to lose weight. A high fiber diet makes fills your intestines, which turns off the hunger signal. The end result is you eat fewer calories. The fiber also helps to clean out the insides resulting in quicker elimination of wastes.

Because of the high fiber content of the food, the digested materials pass from the rest of the digestive system with ease.

Fat content of food
If the fat content of the food is high, natural rapid weight loss is very difficult. One must be very careful about the intake of fat for the well being of the heart and blood vessels. Just limiting the fat content also won’t be sufficient. This is because of body is a fat producing machine. Making an effort to consume more omega fats vs. saturated fats will actually help you lose weight.

Any left over food energy that is not metabolized is converted in to fat and the fat is formed all over the body especially around the hips and waste. The stored fat needs a supply of blood vessels, which burdens the heart unnecessarily leading to increased blood pressure.

The fat stored in the heart and the blood vessels puts stress on the heart by blocking the free flow of blood. This is the main reason for high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke etc in obese individuals.

Role of vitamins and minerals in food
Lack of vitamins can indirectly make you want to eat more. Whenever there is a deficiency of vitamins or minerals in the body, signals are sent to the brain and you start getting cravings.

For example when there is a need for calcium, you will be tempted to consume more of calcium rich foods. Ice cream is a naturally choice because it also contains a high amount of sugars, which will satisfy the energy demands of the body. Even though ice cream contains calcium, which may satisfy the requirement, the fat and sugars received by the body through the ice cream becomes excess and gets stored in the farm of fat. Hence taking required vitamins and minerals in the diet is very important for natural rapid weight loss.

Exercise
Natural rapid weight loss is not possible with out exercise. Exercise is important to increase your metabolism. Starting an exercise program may be easy for the people who aspire for a slim and fit body. But sustaining the exercise and making it a regular habit is difficult. One should continue to stay motivated or our poor habits will curb our results.

Eating small frequent meals
This is the key in natural rapid weight loss. The very purpose of the meal is to get required nutrients for the body. There is no need for extra food or energy. The body needs just what it wants.

Early Trials Lead to Breakthroughs for Psoriasis Treatment

Therapeutic Use Of Jojoba

Jojoba Oil is a liquid wax that is extracted from the seeds of the jojoba bush. Originally a native of the Sonoran Desert of South West USA and Mexico, its long traditions in Native American uses led to the development of commercial plantations in Israel, the USA, Australia and Argentina.

Dr Mosovich said in his paper: “About 40 volunteers, in our laboratories, tried using jojoba wax for chapped hands and against sunburn with very good response, and no allergenic reaction. We started our studies on the assumption that jojoba wax could ease certain skin diseases.”

He also indicated that: “The known lack of toxicity for human beings induced us to test jojoba oil in two groups of volunteers affected with dermatological processes of high cosmetic and esthetic significance. The first group consisted of 35 patients affected with acne vulgaris. Their condition was ‘”cystic’ or ‘purulent’ and seemed to be most resistant to customary treatments.”

He noted that “Patients willingly returned as they felt that the facial treatments were useful.”

“A second group of 27 patients suffered from psoriasis vulgaris. This condition is characterised by excessive scaling (turn over) and is very resistant to conventional therapeutics. The keratoplastic and keratolytic action of jojoba oil suggested that it might be used as additional treatment. The use of steroids in the treatment of this condition is expensive, cumbersome, and may have secondary effects. Jojoba oil may be recommended in certain cases of psoriasis, such as those affecting the scalp.”

Treatment of Psoriasis vulgaris

Under this heading, Dr Mosovich’s paper outlined:
“The experience obtained during studies of acne patients, as earlier reported, showed positive keratoplastic and also slight keratolytic effects, ease and convenience of use, and no side effects. These induced us to study the effect of this ointment for treatment of patients suffering from Psoriasis vulgaris. This illness is frustrating for the physician and the patient, is most unaesthetic and is incurable. The treatment which seems to help one patient has no effect on another, and for this reason it is called “heartbreak disease.”

“The psoriasis histological phenomenon consists of parakeratosis, which could affect several areas of the body. The condition follows an irregular cyclic pattern - improvements followed by declines. The treatment usually used should help to peel the hard scales. Of the medicines used today, some are very expensive and include hormones, such as fluocinonide; the others are classical medicines such as mineral oil or coal tar derivatives, some of which are very greasy, black and, thus, unpleasant for daily use.”

“The patients treated: a group of 27 volunteer patients aged 12 to 60 were treated, eighteen of them for psoriasis of the scalp, as other medications used for this illness are not very effective. The illness causes hard itching, open sores and hair clumping.”

“Ointment specifications: the lipidic water immiscible ointment contains refined jojoba wax esters in cis and trans forms.”

“Method of treatment: The ointment was massaged lightly on the scalp, twice a day, with no immediate hair wash. The patient returns for first control after one week, and for subsequent checks once a month.”

“Results: light spreading of the ointment on the scalp or the effected area permits the removal of dandruff or scales, separates the hairs from each other and causes softening of the skin. The area remains erithematosous. However in several of the cases the scales reappear after a time. There are no adverse effects on the skin. In all cases we could positively say that the treatment helped, at least initially, which is not always the case with other classical treatments. (Fig 5 shows marked improvement on the same psoriasis of the elbows case after the first treatment). The patients begin to use the jojoba ointment willingly as it has no bad odour, and is not greasy; treatment can be carried out during the daytime.”

“It seems, therefore, that jojoba ointment could be a good medication for psoriasis in addition to other recognised medications against the disease.”

Potential for Relief

These findings by Dr Mosovich and his team more than two decades ago ignited a feeling that jojoba could and should be developed into a beneficial product for psoriasis relief.

In those early days we, at Premium, were involved in this nascent industry. Having established commercial jojoba plantations in Australia, we developed natural refining processes that delivered a 100% pure super fine jojoba moisturiser product, now called LANNI Ultimate Moisturiser.

We commissioned a University in Sydney to undertake further research into the qualities of the product in order to further understand its applications and potential benefits to the human skin. The university identified a remarkable quirk of nature… the molecular structure of the product has an amazing similarity to “sebum wax” - the skin’s own lubricant.

It is also extremely stable to oxidation and therefore addition of anti-oxidants is not required. It does not need any preservatives, additives or perfumes, which can often cause allergies or skin irritation and it is refined to anti bacterial standards.

From reading literature on psoriasis, I understood the importance of lubricating the skin in order to minimise dryness, scaling and itchiness. I made it my quest to research potential treatments and cures and to bring awareness and relief to psoriasis sufferers.
Used by Psoriasis Sufferers.

A growing number of people with various irritated skin conditions (ranging from light to extreme) are now reporting that regular application of Lanni Ultimate Moisturiser is bringing considerable relief when many other treatments have brought only frustrating disappointments.

Ever Wondered Why You Need To Take Supplements?

As more health conscious consumers look for ways to improve their overall health, slow the aging process and increase their daily energy levels, vitamin supplements have quickly grown in popularity to fuel this newfound quest to be healthy. Supplements, as you probably already know, were designed to regulate your body’s internal processes by evening out the nutritional levels in our bodies. To say that supplements have become increasingly popular to help in that endeavor would be an understatement. Even so, there are many consumers who routinely ask whether they need to take any supplements and if they do in fact start taking vitamins and supplements what the effects will be to their bodies.

As mentioned earlier probably the biggest concern right now when it comes to deciding on whether or not to take any supplements is why would you take them in the first place. One big reason for taking supplements would be to allow your body the opportunity to get the necessary nutrients it needs to function properly that it might not be getting from your diet or regular meals. One word of caution – if you accidentally get to much of some supplements in your body they can actually start to cause damage instead of helping to improve your overall health and energy levels. For this reason it’s important to monitor what types of foods you eat and the amount of nutrients and vitamins you’re obtaining from them naturally.

There are some well-documented medical reasons for needing to take supplements. For some individuals due to their inability to draw the right nutrients from the food they eat at the level they needed there was a high propensity to become ill. Through the proper use of supplements they managed to right the chemical distortion taking place inside their bodies resulting in an improved ability to fight of illness and achieve a healthier lifestyle with the proper vitamins and minerals in their immune system.

A more publicized reason for needing to take supplements revolves around the aging process. Naturally as we grow older our bodies start to deplete at a faster rate. The more dramatic losses occur in our bone density and muscle mass. We also have a harder time pulling the needed nutrients out of our food. For that reason many supplements are taken to help with our body’s transition during the aging process. We might not be able to stop it but we can slow it down enough to where the supplements allow our body the ability to use vitamins and supplements to balance out our nutritional needs.

There’s no denying it, in order to stay in optimal health, slow the aging process and have an abundance of energy our bodies need a balanced diet full of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. As we get older supplements can help to augment some of the nutrients we lose as a result of the changes our bodies go through. One final word of advice would be to seek help from a professional such as a doctor or physician. A specialist would be able to tell you the correct amount of supplements your body would need in order to get the most benefits. Remember anytime you start a new supplement, to include vitamins and minerals, you will need to keep an eye on your blood pressure and also be on the alert for any other strange happenings that could take place as your body adjusts to the nutrients being added.
